hey, i got my e6320 up to 510fsb = 3570mhz, and ram = 510 also (1:1). i wanna back it down, cuz it seems wrong 2 run my little chip at such great heights. So, what's your Dream backdown? any comments on where would be Koolest place to land down 2? cummon  
 
fyi/ idle is at 37c, system = 48c, and at load, i only used tat so far, 60% test, and system stays at 48c, other temps at 51c. keep it, or move 2 a new location (and find myself a home)?

hey, up 2 dater. i used occt for 30min test at 7x490, 'stable' it said. i ran orthos for 4 tests, 16min each, 1hrs+, and perfect. temps were around 57c testing (both appls), and so it looks like i run e6320 at 3430mhz, 37c idle. backdown would be, then, from benched 515fsb, down 2 490fsb, where it seems pretty good right now. yahoo.

hi. just checking in, to say how it's turned out 4 now. since i use htpc, i decided on 400x7 = 2.8ghz w/ ddr2 800 @ 4-4-4-12. my temps are at 33c idle, and 43c load. this is the cool place 2 be 4 now, so, u know, where's a guy sposed 2 be? cheers, tom L.

Nope, there isn't any reason to OC further, unless you play games on your htpc.

hey, u know, i posted that 3570mhz was happening. well, listen, for certainty, that got dropped to 3500mhz, the, for 2 be sure, 3430mhz. as i said, i've put it at 2.8ghz, but, beside the point. the topic here is, using this just said note, from 3430mhz, all stable & good temps/idle & load/ what backdown would u do, if it were u, or leave it at 3430mhz? if u were 2 use it 4 your 'trip', what'd u do from 3430mhz? i'd love some imagin on this, cuz it seems like fun to trip on. e6320 is an ok chip, p35-ds3r does good, the hsf & ram perform really good, so for gaming, or whatever, what would u do from 3430mhz? i'd hope to hear some ideas, so we're 'enlightened' from where we already think? cummon.... tom L. oh, btw/ i use lian li case (a $100 mainstream one / i forget the #/ it's like #9 or something/ from newegg.) ciao.

What do you mean by 'trip'? If I had it at 3430MHz, I'd first check if the temps are below 65C during Prime95 small FFT and check that the NB temps aren't too high. If that is so, I'd keep it at those settings.

cool, mr. evilonigiri, thanks 4 2 post on it. trip i use like a 60's term, the sort of ongoing experience you're on, like, if you're on a heavy gaming 'trip', or me, a htpc trip/ mp3's, some tv, mjblige video at mtv, like that, my 'trip'. (i like to see what's modern/what's now, cuz i'm fallin behind). well, i ran it at 3430mhz for 4 routines/ 16 minutes each/ on orthos, 1hrs+, and it did fine. i don't know how 2 check nb temps/ probably they're ok. i think i said that at 3430mhz, it was idle 37c, and on orthos & occt, 57c. my copper butterfly zerotherm btf90 rocks. so, pls sir, along this line, is it that u'd game w/ this chip/e6320? pls, if so, an example, like try for cod at a certain # of fps? pls, say, an example. u know, i read so many video card reviews, and they all crank it on the settings, and want so many fps on this or that game, i like to hear about what an enthusiast would do, w/, a given situation, like e6320 @ 3430mhz, we can say stable (occt does.) the card here is sapphire 3850 256k. go on, dude. say.

i forgot 2 say, by check nb temps, do u mean like system temp on speedfan? i should've put earlier, i love my SpeedFan.

Running Orthos small FFT for 16min with 4 rounds is NOT enough. You must let it run for at least 6hours before deemed stable. People had their system fail at 23hours of continuously running Orthos. I'd advise you to download Coretemp to monitor your core temps and run Orthos small FFT over night.
 
That being said, if you system is truly stable, you will see an increase in fps in some games. A game like COD4, you won't see much gain because the game itself isn't very cpu intensive. I'd suspect a 5-10fps gain though. With that video card and the OCed cpu on all high settings, no AA or AF, on a res of 1280x1024, I'd fully expect 40fps avg.
 
Games that are cpu intensive, such as Supreme Commander, you should see a very decent gain, provided that you have enough RAM.

hi. i run on 1680x1050 res on my 20" ws. would u adjust the res, for the gaming experience u mention? i usually see 3 set resolutions, when video cards are tested, like 1280x1024, 1600x1200, and a lower one. w/ my 20", would u set the res at 1280x1024? and, if at 1280x1024, u'd expect 2 see cod4 do 40fps avg.? what about 1/2 life, like the one i got left here? would halfLife be very cpu intensive? i see halfLife often 1st named in video card reviews? is it cpu intensive? is f.e.a.r. weird? i mean, i heard that no 2 experiences are ever the same in fear. it was said, cuz they could do like a string comparison in that game, as they could do w/ most other games? fear has a cool face for showing. btw/ i usually wake up around 1a.m., and fk around all night w/ my pc. i guess i could stick in a few hours of orthos test. what does the fft mean in the name? i see 1024k string tested in routine1, then 8k & 10k strings/ starting w/ M/ used in routines 2&3, and 4 has 868 about length string, what's the fft, pls? i saw that the string types were like mr. L & L, something like that. i just nuked orthos an hour ago, but i could get it back. hope 2 hear some more. tom L.

i meant to say that w/ fear game, they couldn't do a string test, the guy said, cuz no 2 experiences were the same. so they said that, w/ it like that, u couldn't use any string of fear 4 2 compare 2 a next run of it, which a string would be used 4 repeated testing commonly, w/ a variety of games usually.

 
As you can see, under "Test:" there's a drop down menu. Select Small FFTs - stress cpu. That's probably the default anyways.
 
The games you mentioned are not all very cpu intensive. Perhaps Half-life, but not very. At the resolution of 1600x1200, your 3850 256MB may tank, since there's not enough Vram. You should have at least 512MB of Vram for that resoultion.

i see it. i will consider to go back 2 that 3430 oc at some later time. remember, now i'm a happy camper at 2.8ghz. i'm gonna try 2 turn on c1e & eist speedstep, cuz it was recommended after 2 find a landing place. i'll go there on that firingsquad link u put up. oh, remember, would u tune down my 20" res from 1680x1050 to 1280x1024 for 2 play a game? pls say/ i never do hear of gaming at 1680x1050, but it's my favorite monitor size. i hope displayport make a 20" 1080p monitor available/ probably they could reach 2 there/ cuz in a year, a blu-ray dvd-rom drive could be had 4 $100. my card has 10.1 dx, so i'm looking forward 2 sp1 vista. i want other things too, like some appls won't run now, but probably they will w/ sp1. ho.

No, I wouldn't tune down the res. Just don't enable AA or AF if you're experiencing stuttering.
 
Another viable solution to getting more performance is OCing the video card. You may try this if you're experiencing poor game play.
