I have an accomdata 320gb external USB 2.0 hard drive.
I formatted the drive into Fat32 so my PS3 can read the external.
No problems what so ever. One day when I plugged in the drive to my laptop, Vista displayed an pop up message saying I could get faster speeds if i plugged the drive into usb 2.0 port. At this point i'm confused and don't understand why i'm getting the message. When I go to transfer some data it goes crazy slow. Less than 1 mb/s.
I can't for the life of me think of whats wrong. I decided to pull the drive out of the case and put it in my desktop(Win XP). It won't read my drive. Well it does and it doesn't. I can find the drive in device manager but it doesn't appear as a letter drive in windows. Here's a few screen shots of what i have. I'd also like to mention I booted up Data Lifeguard Tools and took a few pics of the screen for you guys.
*EDIT*
I finally after a few days transferred all my data, now the drive is formatted into NTFS.
I've installed the chipset drivers from the Dell website and installed Service Pack 1 for Vista Home premium 32bit. But I still get a message saying I should plug my device into a USB 2.0 compatible port ( To me it sounds like its saying the port is not USB 2.0 but it should be). I was able to get from a max of 900ish kb/s to 6mb/s transfer after the updates.
I'm starting to think it has nothing to do with vista and more so with my device. I'm capable of reading the drive on my desktop if i plugged the drive into the IDE port.
