So lately my computer has been getting hung up on the Windows XP splash screen. I reboot and eventually it starts up. Until last night. Last night it simply would not get past the splash screen.

I can hear clicking going on in my computer... as if it's trying to boot up.

Velocity Micro sent me a diagnostic test to run... (my HD is a Hitachi 320GB) and after running the diag test it tells me that I have a corrupt sector. I have a choice of erasing and losing all data, or attempting to repair the sector and losing SOME data.

But whatever. The computer is still under warranty so they are sending me a new HD.

My questions is, is there any way to boot up the computer in the meantime, such as attempting to repair the corrupt secotr... or am I just going to have to wait for the new HD?

Thanks for any help on this,
Jhawk

You could try leaving the PC somewhere cool overnight (not a fridge) and try booting in the morning, some time this works; if it does run a disk check (all options) and let Windows try to repair/move the data.

Or you can use the original Windows install CD (providing you have one) to do a Windows Repair.

Or just wait for the new HD, it sounds like the old one is on it's way out.

Managed to repair the bad sector and was able to boot up. Will breathe a little easier once the new HD gets here though.

Thanks for the response. :)
