I am in dire need of a new monitor. And I think I've decided to buy a samsung. 3yr on site guarantee here in switzerland is just sweet. But which model to chose. I'm thinking of buying a 27" model. What about the SyncMaster 275T? Money doesn't matter...
The purpose would be gaming, gaming and gaming. Besides that it would be nice to be able to align a few worksheets next to each other. And I'll definitely will get a killer GC, too. Some 8800 presumably. So let me please milk your guys and ladies wisdom and allow me to ask for a little decision help...

Samsung is pretty popular around here, just pick one with decent reviews and a fast response time. I think you can easily find 5ms and below. That should do your 8800 card some justice.

The 275T has a response time of 6ms. This is a little high not? But for 27"?

That's fine, perfectly playable in games. I have an old 12ms response time and I play games at 120+ fps and don't really notice too many problems.

There are 3 good candidates from samsung for you.
244T, 275T, and 305T. All offer 178 degree viewing(very important to me), outstanding 16.7 color, and good response times around 6ms.
I have a 305T and a 244T run off a single 8800GTS-640. I see no problems. However, my most demanding game is CIV-4 at 2560x1600 which is high on eye candy, but does not have the movement action of a first person shooter. A 6ms response time equates to 166 responses per second, so I don't think it should be a problem if the normal refresh rate of a LCD is 60hz. Perhaps others can comment on the performance issue.

The 30" 305T is a gem. It has twice the pixel real estate of the 244T or 275T. I can view two full web pages, side by side. The colors are vibrant, and I have no bad pixels among the 4million.

If you have a vision problem with small pixels, then the 275T might be good. It is just like the 244T, at 1920x1200, except the display and the pixels are about 10% larger.

I understand that Samsung makes the panels for many of the other vendors. It makes sense to me to get your LCD from the original source.

---good luck---

I just got a HANNS G 28" unit from Costco here in the states.

1920x1200 native, 3ms response time, beauty to behold.

I just upgraded from a Dell 24", so same resolution, but bigger fonts, icons, and easier for my old eyes to see.

The 30" units just tax the heck out of the current range of vid cards available, and I like it all maxxed out on the eye candy.

My 8800 GTX will do that at current resolution, but slows down at any higher res.

I liked the Dell, but love this Hanns G. 3 yr warranty as well, but not onsight.

Ganite3: I also have old eyes, and use the zoom quite a bit for reading text. In your opinion, did going to the larger monitor make a worthwhile difference from the 24' DELL?

I have the cheap-ass Samsung 245BW, and I find it fantastic for gaming.

Not a great monitor for Photoshop use though.

Ha, my new Samsung 275T just arrived lol, upgraded from Dell's 24", looks great, and no dead pixels. I was tempted to go with the 30" version but most games may not even support the 2560x1200 resolution yet or run well at that screen size anyhow.
