More Information

Hi, Im new here, nice to meet u all  :D

Im going to buy a new gaming PC, and here's what Ill buy.

CPU
Intel core2 duo E6850
Zalman CNPS9700

motherboard
Gigabyte GA-P35T-DQ6

gpu
GeForce 8800 GTS 320mb

sound card
Creative x-fi

hdd
Seagate barracuda 7200.10 250gb

memory
Corsair DDR2 2GB PC-6400 (2x XMS2 1GB) TWIN2X2048-6400C5DHX

psu
Antec truepower trio 650w

speaker
Altec lansing vs4121

Im getting a bit confused in choosing the rest parts, they are casing, optical drive and monitor

casing, what do u suggest for a good air flow one with fair price?
optical drive, blu-ray or just dvd? I can upgrade my gpu to 8800 GTX if I dont buy the blu-ray, it's so expensive!
monitor, what do u suggest for a nice one with reasonable price for 20" display? (and I prefer LCD over plasma)

thanks, your answer is really appreciated  :D

Are you going to be overclocking your CPU at all? If so, Q6600 is a better choice. You can easily reach 3.0Ghz with overclocking and also have 2 more cores than an E6850. If not, E6850 is fine.

There isn't much need to pick that hardcore of a board, if you want the latest cheapest, all the features, stability and great overclocking features, go with Abit IP35 Pro. Exceptional board. Reviews all over the web.

Cooling, for $13 less you can get Tuniq 120 Tower which cools better than the Zalman 9700.

http://www.xoxide.com/tuniq-t-120-hsf.html

That Corsair's memory timings seem a bit loose for the price, you might wanna consider going with Crucial instead, faster and also costs about $30 less.

PSU, for that amount of money you should go with top quality units, Corsair 620HX is in top 3 below $150. That unit is just amazing.

Now the rest of the stuff.
Case, that depends which you are looking for:

Flashy? Antec 900 and Thermal take armor should be your top choices.

Very quiet, great over all case? Antec P182 hands down.

Unbeatable build quality? Lian Li.

Blue ray is still too overpriced to even consider, a regular 20X dvd burner is more then enough for now, maybe a couple if say you have a lot of games which require a disk to play.

Monitor. These are basically the best there are:

20" - First choice:  LG L206WTY-BF, second: Acer AL2051W.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6824009105

22" First choice:  LG L226WTY-BF, second: Samsung 226BW.

Notes: If you decide to go with Q6600, make sure you get a newer G0 version, not the old B3 one. G0's run a lot cooler and overclock better. Go with an EVGA 8800 GTX or 8800 GTS 640MB version, but not 320mb. Upcoming games like Crysis, UT3, Alan Wake are going to be VRAM hungry. Also, 9800GTX should to be out in November this year and expected to be 2.5-3x faster than a 8800GTX, which is insane. EVGA protects your investment, and if 9800 (or however they call it) releases on time, you should be able to get it only for about $150. More here:

Best of luck.

Yeah drop the Blue-Ray because graphics cards are so much more fun. I am also waiting for the 9800GTX and hope its not pushed back into next year.

Right enough, a dual core is a good choice if you're not overclocking since you won't have to factor in power supply overhead. Here's a good site: http://www.extreme.outervision.com/index.jsp

Have you set your desiered noise target? If you can get a system to run quieter than 20db then you're doing well

Finally, done with all that hard decision, I think I dont need that much hardcore motherboard, so ds3r is enough imo.
and yeah, I love that T-120, but it's hard to get, I had to google for it and when i was googling i got that OCZ memory cheap.
and uh, 1 more question about Q6600, how do u know whether it is G0 or not?

I like the Razer, but you should get the laser version. For the keyboard I like the Cyber Snipa cause of the great placement of the keys, plus those keys on the edge on each side are low profile.

yeah i like the razer too.. and uh, I've thought about it and considering the price doesnt different so much, I think it's better to get the razor coper head (http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=59&products_id=20019) and the G15 (http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=58&products_id=21314)

I really love they look, and they do get a good review. ;)

and uh, I kind of need some more help too.. I found it hard to get my hand on T-120 here in aussie. The popular brand here are zalman and thermaltake, anyone can suggest me what to buy if it's limited to those brands?

Thermalright Ultra 120 Xtreme, or the Zalman LED 9700. The Ultra is the better of the two. If you have anymore questions please ask away. :)

I would seriously consider a 2nd HDD.
Place the Swap File and %TEMP% directories on the 2nd Drive as well as use for Backups.

This should help increase performance a bit and even if it's a gaming box, I'm sure you will have some files on there you want saved.

oh right u got the point zenmaster, maybe i'll get a slower but more spaces hdd
and uh, I'm thinking about my choice of psu, is that enough? the thermaltake tr2 550w? or should i consider buying a corsair hx520 or the coolermaster igreen 500w instead?
and many thanks to all of u who have helped me =)

The Corsair HX520W will be enough for your current spec's. You could even run one 8800GTX with the 520W. The minimuim power requirements for an 8800GTX is 500W.

For a G0 Q6600 the product code on the box will be :- BX80562Q6600SLACR and it's the SLACR bit that denotes the stepping as SL9UM is the B3.
