More Information

first off im posting it in this section because im tired of just getting 1 person responding... Though i value everyone's opinion i wont have piece of mind until i get 6+ people responding

So this is a 2k system build for my cousin and im trying to get a sound card in, great speakers, and a great monitor as well as good hardware but its incredibly hard... We will also be ocing the cpu.

anyways any advice appreciated, i need to cut the price down a bit since its $2370.. (i was originally pushing to try to get a quad core but now it looks like thats basically impossible, even after the Q6600 price cut to $300)

*no idea about sound card or hard drive

monitor: Samsung SyncMaster 931BW 19IN Widescreen Glossy LCD Monitor 2000:1 1440X900 2MS HDCP VGA DVI-D $270.77
speakers: Logitech Z2300 Speaker System 2.1 200WRMS 400W 8IN Subwoofer $143.75
sound card: (not sure about this) Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-FI Xtreme Gamer 24BIT Sound Card 7.1 PCI $109.04

case: Antec Nine Hundred Mid Tower Gamer Case 900 ATX $119
PSU: OCZ GameXStream 700W ATX12V 24PIN SLI Ready Active PFC ATX Power Supply 120MM Fan Black $166.89
dvd writer: Samsung SH-S183A Black SATA DVD+RW 18X8X16 DVD-RW 18X6X16 DL 8X INT DVD Writer OEM W/ SW $42.60

hard drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB SATA2 3GB/S 7200RPM 16MB Cache NCQ Hard Drive $93.83
mobo: BFG Nforce 680I $273.43
GPU: BFG GeForce 8800GTX OC 600MHZ $589.99
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Dual Core Processor LGA775 Conroe 2.40GHZ 1066FSB 4MB Retail $279.99
Ram: Corsair XMS2 DHX TWIN2X2048-6400C5DHX 2GB DDR2 2X1GB PC2-6400 DDR2-800 CL 5-5-5-18 240PIN Memory Kit $199.99

CPU heat sink: Thermalright ULTRA-120 Heatpipe Cooler $57.84
Fan: Scythe S-FLEX SFF21F 120MM Cooling Fan 1600RPM 28.0DBA 63.7CFM FDB $18.43

(is there a cheaper fan that blows more air??, i dont really care because the 900 case will be making a lot of noise..)

also i need another clear fan with blue led lights for the side of the 900 case, unless people think it wont even fit because of the hs&f

Total system cost: $2370 (need to cut below 2000)

thanks

*right now the only way i see the price coming down is if i go for the 650i, 8800 GTS, and a cheaper cpu... and maybe some cheaper ram

u can get a 22" Samsung with better quality for 250-260 (AR....)
Go for a E6750... or skimp on that ram (overpriced) and get his quad core....if using 560$ on a memory video card, y not use 1/2 that price on a quad core (*btw, they are like 285 on some sites now)

look around for a good price, heres a good forum i use to find the prices on SALE

fat wallet . (com) (just type in the product in the hot deals section or something and find if any vendor is selling cheaper- like the q6600..they have like 5 topics on it in 2 days!)

GOOD LUCK

Yea looking at your prices again...you are totally going haywire with them

A E6600 IS NOT 279$ (even today...i saw a e6650 for 189.99

look them up bud, you can get this build down to 1800-2000 with a 22" monitor

@ OP: To keep the build to 2k you should probably get a cheaper speaker, RAM is a bit over priced. I suggest that you get this instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820227124 $63 after rebate. (PS: Ignore the Newegg reviews most are just BS. I have used this in many gaming rigs and it runs solid, good OC) Every thing else looks good. Wait till the price cuts to buy the CPU.

any other suggestions on how i can get the price down while keeping up performance?

poor choice of memory when you can get 4-4-3-10 or 4-4-3-5 - 2gb for $120

raid - go with a raid system - use 2 drives in raid 0

that psu sucks- antec, silverstone or others are way better

good luck - i have use all those parts!

if your your going to stick with a e6600 a 650i mob will work fine - use the savings for other parts - if your know your going to go to quad core then stick with 680i mobos since they have power - quads suck up juice and lesser mobo's do not work well

make sure you cut 3 holes in the 900 case run the psu wires

cut ~ length wise -~2" x 1" to run all psu wires at the bottom at the height of the psu

cut a horizontal ~2 x3/4 at the atx

cut a 1x 3/4 at the top to run the case wires and maybe the atx 4pin
