I plan on OCing 3.6ghz + on a GO stepping Q6600. I would love to get 4.0ghz, but I'm not sure if thats even possible. Either way, I want ram that will get me there. If the G skill and Ballistix ddr2 800 ram are the same, i'll save money and go with crucial. Otherwise, I guess I'll go DRR2 1066. YOU GUYS TELL ME.

the only difference between the Crucial 800 and the crucial 1066 is that the 1066 has a sticker saying it's rated to 1066 @ 5-5-5-15, the Crucial 800 will easily run at 500FSB x2.0 multiplier at those same settings

bare in mind that to get to 3.6ghz you'll be running at 400mhz fsb, so with a 2.0x multiplier you'll be running at DDR800 anyway

Out of curiosity... what MB and cooling you using? I can’t get my q6600 anywhere near 3.6 (old q6600, not new stepping)

I have not OC'd my cpu nor actually built my computer, so I'm not technically using anytyhing right now, lol.

I'm going to purchase an Asus P5K deluxe wifi mobo for my Q6600 build today or tomorrow.

As for cooling, I'm going to use a thermochill 120.3 radiator, mcp655 pump and either a swiftec storm or apogee gtx (i'll probably be posting a qestion about which block is better) to soley cool the CPU. I want a quiet computer, so I want a big radiator w/ quiet fans. That should handle any OC just fine.

So long as the Crucial ballistix DDR2 800 ram can theoretically get me near 4.0 ghz, I'm set.

So, just to make things blunt, If i'm going for an extreme OC, the DDR2 will hold me?

This set runs 170 bucks. Would this ram get me much better OCs than the DDR2 800 crucial due to the MUCH tighter timings?

I know at one point, the whole tight timing deal can be overkill, but I'm just trying to find ram that will support my goals. Does it seem that even though some ram has really tight timings, when you OC it, the result comes out to be the same as other ram that isn't as tightly timed? If so, the crucial seems the way to go.

I don't mind paying a bit more for ram, so long as it gets me where I want to. 80 for the crucial is a great deal and if that'll get me a FSB of 550+ (hopefully 575+), I should be set to do some serious OCing.

Go with the Crucial Ballistix DDR2 800. It will run 1:1 at your OCing goal (400fsb), you should be able to push it up to 450-475mhz (giving you your 4.0+Ghz Quad )
Good choice on Radiator and pump, I would suggest the Apogee GTX (price just recently dropped and it now ships with the larger O-ring istalled (not the easiest thing to do trust me!).
If you are looking at 500+mhz fsb you might want to look into phase change or, a TEC. And some DDR2 1066 c4.
