Thread : DirectX 10 card on a Windows XP System ?

More Information

I understand that DirectX 10 is not compatible with Windows XP...but I dont want to splurge for Vista just yet when my Vid Card needs upgradeing (Not enough moola to do both).

So If I grab a Video Card that is of the 8000 series chipset and is Direct X 10 ready then attempt to run it with my Windows XP system (Duo Core 2 E6600 and 2GB DDR2 800 RAM) will my system freak out on me?

Sorry if this question has been asked before, I looked but didn't see it. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Heck, I'd say the 8800's run better on xp than vista :P

But has anybody played a directx 10 game on xp?

More Information

There are no true dx10 games out yet (except maybe lost planet I dont know if its been released yet coz I havent bothered to do a follow up of it).

More Information

XP is "not compatible" with DX10, and only the DX9 features of the games will be available. Some software groups have already cracked some of the DX10 demos to work on XP, proving that the incompatibility is purely for microsofts benefit.

You can't do that... XP doesn't support DX10... but it could later, due to 3rd party modders like boogityboo04 said.

I heard that was a hoax, and read on a M$ page that it was not true, but hell, I'd love it if it were! (I'm excited about sp3 ANYWAY, regardless of DX10 or not) I think our only help as lasting XP users for DX10 is the work of the modders/crack people.... so yeah.

MS made DX10 and Aero the primary reasons to shift to Vista. If they made DX10 available on XP then most people wouldn't start buying Vista until maybe 2009. (If they're lucky)

Yep, exactly. Dx10 is Vista-only, until these guys got their hands on it :D

I really do hope that they get to make it into a functional DX10 for winXP. I ain't planning on switching on the slow, bloated, no-really-new-features OS that is called Vista. XP was lean, mean, fast and it did what people wanted it to do, with Vista it tells you what you could only do.
