More Information

Hey, I've searched relentlessly for help and called Linksys Support and everything and I still cannot find an answer.

So my last option was to post a new topic. I just bought this wireless PCI adapter for my desktop yesterday afternoon and I've been trying to get it to function correctly. I installed the PCI card first then booted my PC then told windows to install the drivers from the linksys CD, found them and and everything was going great. So it installed and I make sure I have the antenna pointing straight up for best signal and I go wireless network connection to view the many AP's (Access Points) that my laptop picks up, and to my surprise the WMP54G 4.1 did not pick up a single one. Take note that I put the desktop on top of a box so it's rear is facing a huge window with wide open space behind it. If I would put my laptop in the same place it would pick up about 14+ AP's. But even when I set it on the floor it still picks up about 8 or 9 AP's. I thought that having that big antenna on the PCI Adapter would pick up a lot more than my on board Intel Wireless. And if I move the antenna a little sideways it picks up one AP and it has 4 bars of Signal. On my laptop It reads that same AP but I have never gotten more than 3 bars. So this tells me this PCI adapter is stronger than I first thought, but why wont it pick up loads of signal like my laptop does? If I cant find an answer I guess I'll just have to return it. Anyone have any idea what could be going on here? I even tried making an antenna out of foil but it just picks up sometimes. If I refresh they are gone. I really like the signal it gave on that one AP, but I know something is wrong if it does not pick up all the others. Please Help me

I also want to add that if you do recommend me to go return it, Could you tell me what PCI card will actually read all the Wireless just like my laptop? Or are they all the same, in the sense of picking up signal? I'm honestly worried about buying another PCI wifi adapter. They're not cheap. I have to buy local so my options are Bestbuy and Walmart. I got this WMP54G 4.1 at walmart for $40.
Maybe recommend a working PCI wifi adapter that also can be used for cracking WEP and reading SSID broadcasts.

Thank You in advance
