Hi,

I have an Acer N35. It connects to the PC via USB (sorry if this is
obvious, I'm new to pdas!) and runs Windows Pocket PC 2003 (v4.20.0
(build 14133)).

As soon as I switch my PC on (assuming the pda is connected to its usb)
the pda comes on as well. Also, when I connect the pda to the usb when
the pc is running, though this is more understandable / acceptable).

Is there any way to STOP the pda from coming on whenever I switch my PC
on? (Note, it's as soon as the button on the PC is pressed, before XP
starts and before the POST of the PC - must be the mobo?)

TIA!

Pete

P.S. I've thought of not connecting the pda to the pc except when I want
to synch, but would prefer to find a more elegant solution!

Why do you want it to stay off? It's not running on batteries, it's not
costing you anything (a few cents a year in power maybe), or doing anything,
other than sit there.

It presumably turns on when it detects 5V on the USB port, so there's
probably not a lot you can do about it turning on, but if it really bothers
you having it on, set the power options to turn it off if not used for 1
minute when on external power (start->settings->power).

Thanks for the reply. I understand what you're saying, but it just
seems needless to have it on all the time and I don't want to wear the
screen out :->>

I had thought about the auto-power off option, but as you probably know,
the Acer N35 is a satnav as well, and I just KNOW I would forget to
change the setting when it's in the car and I'm depending on it. Really
don't want to mess around having to remember to change the setting every
time I drive.

Guess I'll just live with it. It's a lovely device in every other way!

Cheers.

Pete

The design is to both turn on and launch the activesync connection on
detect of a connection.

You might experiment with going into activesync options on the ppc and
changing some of the settings, but I would suggest that simply
unplugging the usb connector would be a more efficient way to meet your
need.

You can control the ppc's "shutdown" timeouts using the power settings
and the activesync connection options.
