Hello,
How to install Ubuntu 11.10 on a laptop which has no boot on usb key (bios) and no cd.
OS is ubuntu 9.04 with internet connection.
I don't want to upgrade, I want to install the new version 11.10

I think you might find you can get it to boot from USB. Have a look at this thread:

made sure USB Legacy Support is Enabled(can be named USB KB/Storage support as well). format the stick in FAT32, instead FAT16(some USB sticks are picky, usually cheapest one like PQI).
it could be detected as USB-HDD, USB-ZIP. if no change try with different USB stick.



I'd have a good look in the BIOS and see if you can get the usb legacy option enabled.

This adapter may allow you to take out the 2.5" IDE hdd and use a desktop to format and install your distro of choice.
At least, I would hope it would allow such. Your notebook sounds like an oldy but goody!

Assuming that you have another computer available you can do a network install via TFTP. Have a look at: http://polishlinux.org/installatio [...] -cd-drive/
