First off hello, this is my first forum ever.

I have a sony viao VGC-RA810G that my mother managed to fry the hard drive. I was already looking into a linux os and went with ubuntu. with that said on the desktop I had a tv tuner that cam with the machine, that I have yet to find a driver for.

Any ideas as to what I could use and how to go about it.?

What interfaces do these devices plug into? For example, I would imagine that the camera may be USB and the capture card may be PCI. For the camera, I would say a fine place to start is installing cheese and just seeing if it works (many webcams just do). If it's not detected, post the output of the ls$BUS command, for example, if it's a USB camera, use lsusb, you may need to run it as root ("sudo lsusb" ). [1]

With the capture card, it looks like the card itself (a connexant affair relabeled by Sony as Giga Pocket), it seems that, while there was some interest and progress on making the card work in Linux at some point, it looks like it kind of petered-out and has stagnated since the mid 2000's, so I wouldn't hold out too much hope for that one (if it's important to you, do some research first and pick a capture card that has good linux support up-front)[2]
