I have Vista Ultimate and changed motherboards. My old motherboard used a PS2 keyboard and the new one only works with USB. My old mouse was USB so it works. My problem is that I didnt connect the USB keyboard and let the OS recognize it before I changed. Yeah I know dumb......

Anyway I can boot with the Vista media and get the a command prompt but I do not know how to change the password from there. I do know my current password and I do have keyboard if I boot to the media. I need a way to either wipe the password or to change it to blank so I can boot. Then I can change it back once the OS loads the USB keyboard

Thanks

When you change motherboards, you really should do a complete clean reinstall.... There's no telling what conflicts you may run into.

Scott thanks for the reply. I am aware of a full install being better but I want to avoid it if possible. (I have been in this business for close to 20 years) All of your options above either do not address my problem or require me to login to do such as password administration. I have never had to do this with vista before, normally I have professional tools to wipe a password in Windows XP where there is a RAID controller. In Vista they dont work (at least yet).

The funny this is however last night I left my computer at the login prompt with no keyboard working. This morning I moved the mouse to get wake the computer up and what do you know the keyboard worked. **SHRUG**

Anyway all is well and working 100%. All hardware was recognized and installed. Old motherboard was an Intel Snow Hill (S3200SH), new motherboard is an Intel Bone Trail 2 (DX48BT2).
