Don't know if this is the right place to post this topic. I don't know too much about networking but would like to connect two computers together to play fear or any other game. What do I need to make this work.

in normal. need 1 cable to connect 2 pc plug in lan port ( need some info about how to do 1 cable to connect 2 pc, 'cause it's difference with normal way)

2nd. need 2 cables and a switch
the same way above but its connect through switch ( this way offers more stable)

2 ways above, u have to make sure its the same workgroup.

last, need 2 Lan cables, router 4 port
the same 2nd but through router ( router as a main server ) u just need to setup router

u need a technician to help u built it if u have little infor about it.

the easiest way ive found to do it is using a wireless router ... connect to the network the router makes through your wireless connections, then just play over LAN UDP/IP connection, if you dont have wireless cards then the other easy way is to get two ethernet cables and hook each computer up to a router and play LAN...I have never been able to get a direct connection between computers working but you are welcome to try that too... or you could connect both of them to the internet at the same time and create a private game.. hope this helps

if you get a cross over cable you can plug it between the two computers ethernet ports and then assign each an ip address in the same subnet.

if you do this with a reguler straight through ethernet cable it will not work.

Cross over ethernet cables cost about a dollar a metre premade.
and as long as the distance between ur pc's its shorter than 99 metres its ur cheapest solution.
No hub or router necessary, just 2 computers with network cards or onboard network ports.
For more than 2 PC's a Hub is easier.
EG. once connected the cable,
Setup one with an IP of 10.1.1.10 and the other with 10.1.1.11
Subnet mask must be the same on both pc's and windows workgroup should also be the same. EG. 255.0.0.0
"home" "mshome" or "workgroup" are the most commonly used workgroup names, however they can be anything as long as its the same on both.
Then you can share folder/files and play games.
Note if there is heaps of speed difference between the 2 pc's.

The Faster on should always host the game, slows it down a tad, giving the other pc more fighting chance at keeping up. Some games may lag if the difference is too great, like P4 and P3 for example.
