Well you disabilitate echos....oh wait are you running linux ? But wait, unless somebody is trying to DoS you, pinging it self doesnt do nothing. Or almost nothing, you can only trying to flood them, send very large packages for a very long time.Hope you got a nice upload rate. Oh wait, are you running linux ?

PS: Sorry about the sarcasm, but im going into this Linux trend right now. The Kernel is soooo much...better. Sorry once again.

I agree with randor on Linux. The old Penguin still rocks after all these years. If your are running Linux, just check your logs. Also setup your firewall to block all ICMP, except when you are using it yourself. If you don't know how, don't fret, just install webmin. :bounce:

If your on Windows, you might find something in the logs, I'm not sure. Check them out at rt. click my computa, then manage, then event viewer. If you have a firewall, check it's logs. Software or hardware (usually part of your modem/router, assuming not dial-up, try hitting 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 with your web browser). If you don't have a good software firewall, get zone alarm and install the free version. You'll see the IP of who's pinging.

Enter their IP address here: http://www.arin.net/whois/ and you will find out who/where. I almost guarantee it's an ISP and/or overseas. In thata case, it's probably a hacker or a compromised computer, but they won't do anything. Pinging is legal. If it's a US individual at a university, send a polite note to the abuse e-mail address and they will probably appreciate it and look into it.
