I think I have a hardware problem, really, but since I am not sure what hardware, I'm posting it here.

It sounds suspiciously like a power supply issue. Cooler Master Real Power is a tier 4 power supply. I'm not saying that you should go out and buy and new one, but just keep it in mind.

I agree with dmroeder, the symptoms of the screen garblling could be a PSU issue. Also could be the RAM on your video card overheating.
