More Information

Well, my Abit 32X-Max was rebooting randomly, repeatedly restarting, yadda-ta-ya.

I tried every BIOS on the planet included the original one without success.

Then I saw a link from overclockers where the guy reviewed the BIOS.  Not taking a cue from certain skimsters, I read the review.

He said, "'My machine was rebooting randomly until I set the keyboard and mouse to "OS" in the BIOS.'"

So this morning I gave my mostly-stock motherboard a going-over.  I MUST have keyboard control during booting (and setting the control to "OS" would not allow this) and I didn't have a USB-to-PS/2 adapter for my keyboard's plug.  (I do not save them, I refuse to plasticize the planet or Polymericize America, I zero point them back into China or whatever.  I really hate to, but they manufacture and sell us that stuff, so it's not surprising they get it back.)

I must have keyboard control because I dual-boot Vista/HeX Peanut.  And also, if I had to reload Vista or XP or use the repair console, I'd have to "press a key to boot from CD".  Since giving the OS control over the keyboard wouldn't allow that, I needed to PS/2 on my USB keyboard.

Anyway, I picked the plug up for a couple of bucks, and two fans that I'd been meaning to get.  I took the side of the case off, and installed the fans and
neatened things up a little, then plugged the keyboard in with the plug.

So far, it's been WORKING.  I am using BIOS 1.0, and the mem settings I manually dialed in.  I haven't had a single circular kamikaze restart, and with the PS/2 port I still have control over the boot process.

I keep thinking it's going to prove me or overclockers wrong, but so far, it's not.

I will keep posting here as details emerge.

THANK YOU TO THE REVIEWER AT OVERCLOCKERS.  You saved my long hog.

Mark
