Thread : What's the difference? Asus vs nVidia drivers

More Information

Hey guys, my first post! Yay! :bounce:

Im updating the drivers for my graphics card and I've seen that there are two driver one from the manufacturer
Asus and one from nVidia. I was wondering if there's any difference between the two and which one i should
dl. I'm on dial up so i don't wanna waste a good few hours dl the wrong one. I've also seen optimized drivers
are they any faster than the normal drivers and more importantly are they stable?

Thanks for any replies

Without actually looking at the Asus website I can pretty much tell you that more than likely the Asus driver probably has some extra features that the nVidia drivers don't. I'm guessing it's probably an over-clock utility so you can run your video card faster than the stock speeds. Either that, or it's simply some desktop management features.

The "nVidia drivers". You can pretty much look at those as the "stock drivers" for any nVidia based card. They will be the most stable and is what's recommended by nVidia.

Optimized drivers, are pretty much just that. Someone out their with the knowledge wrote or modified a driver for a nVidia card. They will usually be better for gaming and are usually geared to get the most performance out of your card. Stability is usually not an issue, but it depends on the driver, your hardware, and what games and programs you run. In other words, some perform better than others depending on your overall machine.

The Asus drive may be a mix of the two, but I'm assuming it probably is just a nVidia driver bundled with a overclock utility.

If you're worried about you machine running stable and don't want to game or overclock your card I say go with the nVidia drivers.

The only way to find out what will run best on your system will be to try them all, but being on dial up I can understand why you wouldn't want to try that.

Maybe a friend, or someone at work with a better connection can download them for you.

Benchmarks proves that Asus Drivers are enhanced well rounded in all aspects of the windows enviroment and perform nearly as well, where Nvidia's are gaming focused.

Side by side Asus enhanced drivers improve 2D and GUI to near max for the card, where Nvidia's drivers lack the 2D aspect, and almost match 3d perfs.

I know this thread is old...so
