More Information

Hi,

I tried installing Mythbuntu 7.10 last night (standard default install) and can't get anywhere with it.
Anything I do to try configuring it (including starting a terminal window) seems to get me logged out.

Anyone else tried this distro & how did you like it?

Never even heard of that one before I'm afraid. I'm guessing that it installed ok for you but is now not letting you do anything? It might be an X issue. What HW are you running on?

@Audiovoodoo: http://www.mythbuntu.org/

Always had the idea of a HTPC on the back burner, but never had the time.

@Cyborg28: I'm about to download the MythBuntu 7.10 (Tempted to download 8.04 BETA) and install it into vmware to have a play, I'll let you know if I have the same issues.

I had a quick look at the site last night. The one thing I wonder with the derivative builds is how well they do at downstream fixes. Do they point to the main Ubuntu repos or do they have their own?

7.10 did have a few issues early on and it just reminded me of an X problem I read about back when 7.10 came out.

I think the xUbuntu 7.10 ISO is not compatible with intel 810 / 815 integrated graphics chipsets.
Both MythBuntu and xUbuntu are based on the same installer.

I have solved the problem by first installing Ubuntu 7.10, then adding mythtv. This is working fine.

My system:

Intel 815 series Mobo with onboard video
Intel Onboard Nic Working
Intel PIII 933 CPU
384 MB PC100/133 ram
WinTV PVR-150
20 GB IDE HDD (800MB Swap, the rest ext3 root)
IDE CD ROM
Silicon Image PCI SATA RAID Card (w/2 Seagate 7200.10 SATA HDDs)
Adaptec/Texas Instruments ieee1394 PCI host card, trying to use with SA3250HD Cable Box (Channel selection on power up not working properly, so I keep losing the mpeg stream).

I'm surprised by that as xubuntu is towted as a good solution for older and lower spec HW so I would have thought it would have supported them. Glad to hear you managed to find a solution. I've yet to really have a play with Myth, I just don't do enough TV to justify the time or money of playing with tuner cards.
