Motorcycle beginner question

Forum Cars : Japanese Motorcycle beginner question

Hey guys, I am thinking about purchasing my first motorcycle. I have been browsing around and am attracted to the 2012 Ninja ZX-6R, would you recommend that to someone learning to ride? I am not interested in starting off on 1000+cc, figured 600 would do just fine.

I have always owned cars and the price tag along with the nearly 35 MPG of the bike is very attractive. I just would like to hear peoples perspectives on what a beginner should start out on.

The ninja ZX-6R is still a very fast bike especially for a first bike. Now if you have ridden befora and are comfortable on a bike then go for it. I would recommend getting a cheap used bike if you haven't ridden before and then after a season get the bike you want when you're used to motorcycles.

Thank you for the feedback. My cousin has a motorcycle, I am not sure exactly what model, but I am sure he would let me practice with it. I will practice on that until I feel comfortable and then make the purchase. =)

Good idea. There are also motorcycle training courses you can take. They can sometimes be two days but taking them usually gives you cheaper insurance. My dirtbike insurance rate even dropped.

Oh I will have to look into that =)

I am taking MSF course in May which was the earliest available class. And I will continue browsing bikes but atm I am pretty set on the Ninja 650 for a first bike. Not a supersport but will be able to easily ride on free-ways at lower rpms and pass people compared to the 250, especially since I am a pretty large man.

I will look into those bikes also though, thank you.

That 650 will be a huge amount of fun on twisty roads they're really agile. If you live in Alberta or ever planning a trip here I know of some incredible drives in the mountains up here. I have a good crew I ride with. One even lends me his extra bike because mine is no more. I got rid of mine to use as a down payment for a new sled which I drove for 3 hours this winter. I am regretting that decision now.

The price tag of your coffin and funeral will be more expensive than what you save from getting 35mpg.

I forget who said it but I think this saying works for most motorcycle owners:
When I die I want to slide to heaven on my back, dirty, bruised and scratched up thinking what a ride.
Of course with me it'll most likely be hell.
