I"m planning to buy a new HDTV and i have narrowed my options down to these

2 of those are LCD projection,their screen sizes are larger and they cost abt the same
I'll be using the TV with a xbox 360

Are there any advantages of LCD projection over regular LCD?
And all the TVs support 720p/1080i right?

Which is the best buy?

you want the native resolution of any TV to be 1080p for

your choices are good companies though.

Any of these brands are excellent. I think Sony is slightly better brand than Samsung or Sharp. Just rembember that everybody "sees" the picture different so it is best to go and look at the TVs with the DVD you use on your X box playing on the TV unit.

The resolution is a different question. The 720P is better for fast action movies,sports,games-less jerkyness. The 1080I puts less pixels on screen at a time(every other line) so it is better for regular programs that you want to blow up (like big screen tvs). Hope this helps.

The 52" Sharp is a nice t.v. but expensive. The only thing about the LCD rear-projection is that if you are viewing it at an large angle then the picture greatly darkens and the rear-projection is not that good when you have a very bright room. I would not go for the 55" rptv because when you have that big of a size then you can see the lines in between the pixels quite well which is not wanted and bugs the crap out of me, the 50" is the same way but not as bad. If you want to go with a rear projection over 46" or under 127cm i would get a DLP or LCoS one (LCoS being the better). The only real benefit of a rear-projection is a large size for a lot less money then a comparable LCD. Out of the two flat panel LCDs that you picked I would choose the Sony one just because it has a little bit better picture in my opinion. If I were you I would wait a little bit because the new samsung models just came out America but I don't know when they would come out in India so its up to you since it could be a little wait or a couple of months. The new ones have a better picture for less or the same amount of money. The new Sony ones aren't coming till June but most in August (in america). Sharp also has some nice new tvs also.

the problem in India is that there is 100% tax on imported stuff like LCD tvs

so if a 1080p TV costs $2000 outside when it comes to india it'll cost $4000

those are the only tvs that fit in my price range

1)40 inch samsung bordeaux-$2000
2)40 inch Sony Bravia-$2300
3)42 inch Sony Rear projection-$1150

None of these tvs support 1080p
But they support 720p and 1080i,right?

From what u said 50 and 55 inches on RP won't give good picture quality
so would i regret going for the 42 inch rear projection set?Especially the price is real tempting and i get the same screen size and same resolution

Sharp TVs are way too expensive here

Also is the response time any better/worse with RP LCD tvs with respect to regular LCD tvs?

All the tvs support the input of 720p and 1080i but will only be displaying 720p or technically 768p. For the money I would go with the samsung LCD or if you don't mind not being able to hang up the tv or if you view the tv from the side then the rear projection is the better choice. But another thing I need to point out is that the rear projection has a bulb that is rated at 6000 hours which is equal to 3 years, the bulb is more replacable then if anything goes out on the LCD flat panel. The bulb is usually around $200 here. So its up to you

so i'll go for a 42 inch Sony LCD Projection TV
seems nuthin wrong with it since u guyz did say that big screen size(i.e beyond 50 inches)affects image quality negatively

That TV is really tempting since it costs nearly half of the bordeaux,i get a slightly larger screen and no apparent drawbacks
And the 42 inch uses the same panel as the 50 and 55 inch models as shown in the site too

Maybe i'll use the difference in cost b/w LCD projection 42 inch and the bordeaux and get myself some PC upgrades or put it in the bank

The models which i had planned to buy are all unreliable outside the warranty period
And i don't want spend so much money on fixing a TV a year after i bought it
I'll just stick with the bordeaux
I nearly made a big mistake

Pls don't tell me theres anythin severely wrong with the bordeaux also(other than lack of contrast and blacks aren't handled well)

And DLP tvs aren't available in India otherwise that wuda been an option
