Look, it's obvious what Intel is doing. Last night I watched for the zillionth time one of the best movies ever made, The Godfather. Intel is copying Sonny Corleone when he finds out that his brother in law Carlo just beat the crap out his sister. Sonny runs up to Carlo in the street, smashes his head in with a garbage can and then when Carlo is lying in the gutter gives him one last good swift kick to the ribs. Consider the QX6800 as Intel giving the last kick to AMD. It was unnecessary, but damn, didn't it feel good?

P.S. I know that Carlo later sold out Sonny to Barzini, but I don't think AMD has the ammo to shoot Intel full of holes at the causeway tollbooth!

In fairness, though, it's not a whole lot more expensive than a similar system from Dell.

Which just reinforces the amount of premium OEMs add. Yes, support is thrown in there, but for most people it wouldn't be worth it. Most people using / buying one of those systems would probably have enough knowledge to fix whatever went wrong anyway.

Let's hope it's a lot faster cause 2 3GHz Xeons is like 250W. Can you say space heater. But I guess since it will be faster than AMD it's OK.

Considering the low volume, lack of competition, high power draw.... and general pointlessness of this release... I'm betting its just the final proof intel aims to crush AMD entirely. Now they can brag about having a quad core on the market that outperforms (hypothetically) AMD's upcoming Barcelona, even if you can't find one to buy.
