So I decided to build a new computer.

I bought two new Sata Raptor HDs from Western Digital.

I installed them (again no OS is on either and these are my only hard drives atm).

The system posts fine. I set up the striping/raid setup in the bios.

It should be noted that the bios will not let me set this new "drive" (raided dual harddrives) to bootable. The option is grayed out.

I put in my xp pro disc. It starts fine and then stops on one of the files (something like APIC embedded controller files). After reading the manuel again I notice that I need to make a floppy boot disk with the drivers for the raid setup because windows will not install them. I make the disk and 5 more from the cd I got from the motherboard retailer (Asus). I put in an external floppy (because I did not order a floppy), the bios recognize the floppy so it should be ok. When it says to press F6 to install sata/raid drivers from an external source, I hit F6 several times. I do not get any response, it just continues trying to install windows and locking up at the same point as before. The motherboard disc gives me six options of disks to make drivers for a raid/sata setup (32bit or 64bit etc). I made and tried all six. None have worked.

I am at a loss. Any help would be much appreciated.

My bad, wrong forum.

First you need to get the BIOS to recognize the hard drives and setup the RAID, 1 or O. RAID Tutorial this can be a bit tricky; on my mainboard this is done in the first BIOS screen and I have to select RAID on SATA rather than IDE RAID under hard drive options, I also have to set defaults first. (Read your mainboard manual)
Second: spent the $14 and get a real floppy drive and plug it in if only for the OS install.
You purchased a AMD Athlon 64 X2 use the 64 bit drivers the disk does not need to be bootable but will need all of the files created, usually by an executable that writes to the A drive.
When you load the XP disk and it starts up push that F6 right away, it can go by quickly. If you are not prompted to load the (SCSI driver) by the time it want to you to choose where to install the OS, you missed it start again. good luck. Also you may want post this under hardware: motherboards: ASUS if you have problems with getting your RAID setup.

He should only use the 64-bit drivers if he is installing a 64-bit OS. If he's using a standard XP Pro install, then you just want the 32-bit drivers.

A very good point. With a 64 bit processor you would want to be installing the 64bit version of Windows XP Pro not the 32 bit version. The 32 Bit version will work, but will not take advantage of the 64bit processor and would function as a basic Athlon chip.
