I'm about to change my HD and am wondering whether or not it's possible to
import all the data i have on my autocomplete boxes/fields - not just web
addresses but other stuff in drop down boxes etc. i've read that
autocomplete does have a kind of 'data store' but any idea where it is
located? I'm thinking of saving/backing it up and then importing it as i
would with stored email messages/dbx files. tia. mojo

That's kept all over the place, registry etc... You can, instead, take a
peek here and see about doing a complete backup of the OS and then moving
that to a different drive. The free xclone should do the trick for you if
it's just a single drive to drive (without partitions) move:

Various ghosting/imaging software will allow you to create an image of
your current drive in a partition of your new drive, assuming it is much
larger, which can then be restored into the beginning area of the new
drive. This will allow everything you have in place on the old drive to
be fully operational on the new drive when it is placed into service as
the primary boot drive. I have used Drive Image for this for many years
with great success. Of course there is also the Drive Copy feature
which can also be used without the imaging step but I like to have an
image of C drive as it is when working the way I want just in case the
OS decides to take a dive. When that happens it is 10 to 30 minutes and
I am back up and running as though nothing bad has happened. This also
works well when checking new applications that do not always work as
described and, at times, do not uninstall properly. By creating an
image before installing the app all of these problems can be avoided by
restoring that image and the app never existed as far as the OS is knows
after restoration is complete. At that time I simply delete the apps
folder from whichever drive partition it was installed to. Of course if
that was C drive then it is simply gone already.

Acronis True Image allows you to clone a larger partition to a smaller
one as long as the data being transferred will fit. I clone an 80GB HD
to a 30GB HD because the data occupies only 15GB.

As will Drive Image for those who have it. There are 3 levels: Archive
with no compression, 25% & 50%. The difficulty in compressing a large
amount of data into a smaller space is that you seldom know until the
end if it will fit. At least with DI. I have never run Acronis so
cannot speak for it. Another earlier imaging program was IE3, not
Internet Explorer 3 just with the same name. It allowed operation by a
system manager over a LAN in the manner of Ghost Walker for Ghost if it
is still available. For DI the user can write the image to a mapped
drive if it a data partition that is being imaged but not for an OS
drive which must be done at the DOS level. For the user remember that
only the used portion of the drive needs to fit on the data partition.
A 40G partition with a 2.5G OS only needs 2.5G of space, or less if
compressed. Most will also image to multiple CD's or DVD's but it is
much faster to image to a partition and later save to removable media if
that is desired. With DI I have had problems using removable media
directly so would not recommend it as a primary practice until fully
verified on a particular machine.

BTW thanks for the pointer to Acronis I will check it out also.

I just came across this link that should help anyone interested in the
concept and advantages of imaging.
