Thread : Problem with obtaining a network connection on startup

More Information

Archived from groups: microsoft.public.win2000.setup (More info?)

I have Win 2k SP4 with RoadRunner ISP. I have a Winbook notebook and Belkin Router with 4 port hub.

What happens is that I can not get an Internet connection or network connection,
unless I press the "reset button" on the router.

I tried switching routers to a Netgear and the same problem occurs.

The setting for the notebook are all dynamic.

I can place this notebook on another totally seperate network and everything works fine.

I even put the Belkin Router on another network and the network worked fine. In addition,
the same notebook also worked fine on the other network.

So the problem network contains RoadRunner ISP, a Belkin or Netgear Router. I even bought brand new
cables. The interesting thing, is that on the problem network, I placed a Win 98 desktop. That
desktop has not problems with connectivity.

An interesting quirk, is if I can get the notebook to work, without pressing the reset button on the
router, "if I start the desktop and open a Web page". Without opening a Webpage on the Desktop,
my notebook, won't get connected.

Your help would be appreciated.
