I have a laptop that I normally leave logged on to my local wireless lan for
the last 7-8 months with no problems whatsoever relative to popups and
adware.

Last week I had a work associate email me a powerpoint presentation.  Once I
opened it, I have had nothing but problems with recurring popups and adware
to the point my laptop is nearly useless.

I have the Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta and the CA antispyware with antipopup
software installed but simply will not stop these nuisance programs.  I can
run both pieces of software and the popups occur all during the scan.
Sometimes I get 35 popups detected (and removed?) 10 minutes after a
previous scan.

I changed the Security on IE 6.028 to be highest but I can't even get EMail
from the Yahoo site with this setting.

Last night I had everything cleaned off for 30 minutes, no application
programs running with Microsoft AntiSpy and CA AntiSpy & CA Antipopup
running.   This morning I had 66 IE windows open.  So many that the task bar
has scroll buttons on it.

This all started after opening the power point presentations.  Does anyone
have any software to recommend that could clear this problem?  Or maybe High
Security with a few parms set to medium?

Thanks

It might help to run your parasite removal programs in safe mode, boot back
into regular mode and immediately run them again. Be sure that you have the
latest updates for your programs. It may also be worthwhile to try AdAware
SE which just released a new version. You should also do a full antivirus
scan with the latest virus definitions installed. I use XP SP2 which has a
built in pop up blocker but before that I used the free Google toolbar that
has a built in pop up blocker that worked very well. If you install the
Google toolbar do NOT select the advanced features as they are not needed
for the popup blocker to work.  --- Steve
