I've been using a pocket pc for a couple of months. Love it.
I work for a company, and I go into that office 2 days a week, the
rest of the time I work from home, go see customers, etc.
The problem.
I update my pocket pc in the field. when I go to the office or back
home, I want those changes put on my desktops. I have no problem with
contacts as they update both of the desktops just fine, but the
Calendar has a mind of it's own. It updates from the desktops, thus
loosing what I've done in the field. I have enough sense to write
things in a paper dateminder, but want to stop doing this. I also
backup the calendar on the pocket pc before I connect, so I can put
things back... But I've been told that the 2 computers that I have a
partnership with will take orders from the pocket pc in the calendar
area as well as the contacts. I'm using ActiveSync 3.7.3.1 on both
desktops.
Any suggestions?
(don't reply to emial, you'll never get me) Please post any help here.
Regards,
Ron

I'd set up activesync to 'desynchronise' the calendar :

Let it start to sync one last time and then cancel the 'would you like
to combine items' dialog. Go to Activesync Tools->Options->Sync
Options tab, and look down the bottom.

See the unintuitively lablled 'server options' ? Go there (click
Configure) and uncheck the 'Calendar' icon. No, I don't know why it's
not listed on the main screen of sync items, either ;-p

If you prefer to sync the items on the PPC back to the PC however,
instead go to the 'Rules' tab, and make sure the "Desktop" dropdown is
set to 'Always replace the items on this computer'. If you're using an
exchange server, maybe you'll have to do the same to the dropdown
below that too (I've never tried)

My original set up was to syncronizer on connect, and it does. Your
suggestion to cancel the 'would you like to combine items' dialog.
never appears.
The syncronize with server checkbox has never been checked.
I can't find 'desynchronise' the calendar anywhere.
I'm going to un check it as one of the items to sync, then see if I
can make it do it on my own after notes and contacts do their thing.
Is there a later version of activescnc that I should be using?
Seems like this thing was written for management to keep up with you,
not for you to configure as needed soas to be able keep yourself up to
date :{

No that was just a term I made up cause I cound't think of the proper
word for it - the instructions below that should have worked though.
Did they ?

Yes, it works (sort-of) but it's a PITA.

None of your 'made up' terms or the commands that you suggested are to
be found, (although they should be) where you suggesteded, except in
the 'sync with server dialog area', and I don't have that checked. So
I checked it and it mde no difference
Currently I no longer update the calendar and it's a pain writing
future stuff in. There is no keyboard that I know of for the Mio 168,
but that is what I have (and love).
Should I Install 3.8?????
It seems no matter what I do, the 'contacts' work perfectly, it adds
my notes or phone number changes or whatever whether I put it on the
computer and sync later or put it on the ppc and sync later, while
the calendar comands still do what they want Actually the calendar
simply puts on wharever s on the desktop.
My real question is if
I. upgrade to 3.8, how will it get onto my ppc? I don't see Active
Sync in the Remove Programs page on my ppc. Will the install of 3.8
tell me to hook up my ppc during the install and do it for me? Geez,
sorry to be so dumb, but I don't want to ruin my Most Excellent new
tool!
I did get paperwork with this Navman PIN, but it doesn't go into
enough detail.

Hmm I don't know what version you have there (I've got 3.8 but I
wasn't aware these items were missing in earlier versions)

It doesn't - it's a program that's installed on the PC not the PDA.

Updates to AS are usually just to do with reliablility issues or file
conversion. I can't remember any major new features - although I
wouldn't go for AS4 right now cause they removed the capability to
sync over WiFi (dunno why :-p)

Thanks again for your help, just to update you, I had 3.7.something on
one computer and 3.8 on the other. Maybe that shouldn't have mattered,
but after upgrading the older version and being sure I had all my eggs
inthe right basket during setup, things work fine now.
Regards,
Ron
