Your set up will look like this.

DSL modem >>> WAN on Router >>>> Your PC to any of the wired LAN ports or wireless if Notebook.

You should used the CAT5 patch supplied.

I am so confused.Let's try this,LOL.I have a SMC Barricade G Wireless Broadband Router.(802.11g-108mbps).I should connect this to my DSL modem.
On the computer I want also connected,it has a 3Com 3C920
Integrated Fast Ethernet Controller(3c905c-tx compatible). Is there anything that needs to be connected to this 2nd computer? In other words, doesn't this comuter need something to 'catch the waves'? I don't knwo how else to explain it.This is all new to me.

You will need to connect the 3Com port to a LAN Port on the router.

Default on pc's are DHCP. So one you connect it to the routers, it should retrive the needed info form the routers.

Follow the instrucions on setting up the DSL that came with your service. Try it first with the router in place. Some Installation will reconize the router and allow it. Other will tell you to remove it till setup is complete. Then connect the router and run the setup for it. DSL normally use a PPoE configuration. Which normally require ID & PW. This info will be setup into the router. Some also require the MAC Address. This is what is know as clone. Makes one device change it's MAC address to reflect the other.

Since your router is a wireless. Dissable the Wireless if not in use. Otherwise setup the WPA security.

I am still copnfused. The computer that I want hooked up is in another room. How can I connect that one to the router when the router is hooked up to the main computer?I don;t get what is supposed to eb hooked up physically to the other computer. What am I not understanding?

More Information

You only have 2 option in that case.

1. Run a cat5 cable between the 2.

2. Use a wireless card in remote pc to your wireless router. There many different ones to choose from.

First, don't feel like an idiot as most people that have never setup feel the same way you do.

Just follow the manufactures directions and you should be fine. All that is needed is an eithernet cable from your modem to the the WAN port on your router and an eithernet cable going to the eithernet port on computer. Make sure you have DHCP and DNS set to automatic. Check to make sure Local Area Connection is set to Broadband and Enabled in internet connections in control panel. The first time you will need to reset the modem by pulling the power plug from the back and waiting about 30 seconds. Then power up the modem and wait until all the lights are steady. You won't see all the lights at this time. When everything stops blinking then power up the router and then open IE and try to surf a page. you can test for un cached pages by going to www.purple.com just a purple screen with nothing on it.

Hope this helps make things a little more clear.
