I just downloaded 2005 maps from the Microsoft website for the ppc, & opened
them with streets & trips 2005 for ppc. These maps seem very out of date.
Addresses of people that moved to the Las Vegas, Henderson Nevada area 10
years ago, can't be found on these maps (might even be more out of date than
that). The maps' city boundaries aren't even close to what they are today.
Microsoft should know about this so maybe, just maybe, they could develop
reasonably current maps!

Is there a better map program with current maps out there for the ppc?

There are many GPS navigation programs, like Mapopolis, TomTom Navigator and
Destinator. They use Navtech or Telemap sites, which are usually very
updated.

I use TomTom and like it. Have traveled most of the USA using it and find
the data to be mostly very current and accuracy to be good.
I use version 4 with their wired GPS and cradle kit, works great.

That must have taken some time, 2005 maps.

How long did the download take ;-)))

Mapopolis seems pretty good. It's missing the odd little thing in my city,
Vancouver, Canada, but generally current.

I downloaded 31 maps for about 23 mb total. Didn't take too long with
cable. Any idea how to let Microsoft know the out of date status on their
maps? I snooped their website & didn't find any way to do that.

I recently had a Mapopolis subscription that let me download all the
Navigator maps I needed for a year. They worked great in my iPAQ. I
also have a eTrex GPS so the natural next step was to order the cable
that marries both units.

The cable works fine but when I tried to use the Mapopolis GPS feature
it reported GPS was not enabled for my maps. The Mapopolis website
clearly said the maps supported GPS and and included voice prompts. My
one tech support request to Mapopolis was not answered and I am
stumped.

Has anyone seen this? Maybe a setting I overlooked?

Thanks,
Dave

You must have gotten in the wrong place and not downloaded navigator
maps. Mapoplis has lots of other kinds of maps available. Make sure you
have the navigator ones.

Dale,

I have Mapopolis in my Samsung i700, and purchased a map for my location, I
had to hard reset the phone and now all the info is lost, I tried to
download the map I purchased but I lost my login info as well, I had
emailed numerous times to request my password but no luck, is there another
way you may know on how to obtain this information?

Not going to help. MS doesn't do their own maps, nobody does. There are only
a couple of mapping data sources available and all the mapping software
products use one of them as the their source. There are differences in the
currency and accuracy, and differences in the licenscing fees paid to the
companies, and even differences in the fees depending on the intended use.
Data sufficient or intend for navigation is more expensive than that
intended for purely lookup. That's one of the reasons Pocket Streets had a
15 sec delay between GPS updates and no routing. It wasn't the inability of
MS to code it.

For folks with Mapopolis questions, there is a forum at www.gpspassion.com
that is frequented by Mapopolis folks, both from the company, and
enthusiasts. You might get some answers there.

Somebody must do there own maps, then sell them on to the other
companies otherwise there would be no maps.

And these data sources for the maps must do the maps.

I guess you mean that the progam writers don't produce their own
mapping data but licence it from third parties. But someone must do the
data or the data wouldnt be there to use.

I went to the site you gave me & I wasn't able to find the place to provide
feedback Al. Maybe you could send my problem message to Microsoft. I
always find them well insulated from my attempts.

Sorry, but if you purchased only one map they should have a record. You
may also have the map somewhere on your hard drive. Search the driver
for a .mlp extension. If you purchased just a single map then you
probably don't have a login just an enable for that one map.
