Ive been using my brothers Vic firth headphones...( They are made to listen to music while playing your drums...so they have crazy noise canceling...but mild sound ) ... and really like how there's little way to mess up the sound...its much more crisp then a normal speaker set...

i'm looking to invest in a really good pair of gaming head phones... and am looking for a point in the right direction...I'm looking for 5.1 (if not better) and some sort of noise canceling..and fairly comfortable

Price is probably not an issue..unless they are like... $200.... but pretty much any gaming headphones...

It took me 3 pairs to find a good set... the razor hp-1 owns... doesnt smash your ears... very comfortable and the mic is tiny and doesnt get in the way... I'd suggest it to anyone!

I have the Zalman 5.1 headset and Sennheiser HD555's and I prefer the HD555s.  The EAX is great and simulates as good as true 5.1 speakers.  Besides I find the sound from those tiny drivers in 5.1 headsets to be paltry compared to good cans.

~_~ Highly doubtful.... I'm using pretty much the best pair of 2 speaker headphones available...and sound quality is...meh.

The HD555s don't have a mic though do they? Know of any good stand alone ones?

I would recommend buying very good quality 2.1 headphones over average 5.1 headphones.

My advice to you is this:

If you have $220 to spend, but truly want an amazing audio quality, get this combo:
- Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic
- Sony MDR V600 Studio headphones
 http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDR-V60 [...] B00001W0DI

I have both of these items, and trust me,
with the X-fi's CMSS3D headphones ability and the Sony headphone's spectacular quality, you're in for a treat. Of course, I have always been a Sony fan as far as headphones are concerned (the down side to Sennheiser sometimes being the price)

However, since you mentioned $200 might be a problem, I still recommend buying these headphones. If you are going to buy headphones other than this one (or Sony MDR VX00 series) or the Sennheiser mentioned above, be sure to look at the fine print. Sometimes headphones with a lot of publicity offer lower quality than headphones you've never heard of...

Also, reviews are ve
I too was looking for comfortable headphones, and from Amazon's reviews,
and my experience, I guarantee you will not feel anything even after hours of either gaming or mixing. Their comfort truly is remarkable.

Well, I use them for recreational purposes, not gaming specific.

If you're going to be using the headphones for studio work, get a better Sony series or a Sennheiser.

If you're going to be using them to game, it's really up to you. With the X-Fi (which is really night / day gaming audio, comparing to anything else) 5.1 is not really a MUST.

However, hooking up 5.1 headphones to an X-Fi might cause some problems, since on mine the speaker configurations are as follow:

headphones
2/2.1 speakers
4/4.1 speakers
5.1 speakers
6.1 speakers
7.1 speakers

As you can see, no ''5.1 headphones'', so you might have to put it as 5.1 speakers. The X-fi being the best available however, maybe the ''headphones'' configuration is auto-adjusting, depending on your headphones.

Most video reviews, show them setting the config to 5.1, even though they are using headphones.
