I was just on the TomTom web site for the US and saw a product called
Tom Tom 5. Obviously this is new. Anybody heard/know any thing about
this. Any clue where I can get more info, upgrade policies, ...?

I note that the software and maps comes preinstalled on a supplied SD/MMC
card.  Can you copy it to your own, larger, SD card so that it can coexist
with other applications?

Yes, you can copy to a larger card or a different type e.g. SD, CF etc.

Darren,

As usual, excellent review. Since TomTom is a European company and CeBit
is aimed at the European audience, the European version slant is
understandable.

For us in the US, did TomTom release any info to you concerning updates
and compatability? We are planning our trip to Europe for June and I
would like to use TomTom for navigation. I currently use TomTom 4 here.
Do ytou (or anyone else out there) know about the compatability of TT4
(US) with the maps (Europe) of TT5.

Unfortunately the company was of little help when I posed the question
to them about getting European maps for TT4, but that was before CeBit
so the vagueness is (in retrospect) completely understandable.

We asked these very questions as it is oft asked by US visitirs to Europe
and vice versa.  TomTom assured us that the TT 2004 US application is fully
compatible with TTN5 maps.  HTH.

What about the reverse?  What US/Canada maps could one use with TTN5?

Similarly, owners of TTN5 can use TT 2004 Maps.
