I have Earthlink 3.0mbps DSL, and a netexcell router... i get 600k connections on my main computer(1) (which is this one) and my other computer(2) downstairs, i get 2.8mbps... and whenever a friend bring their computer over 2.8mbps.... This is a custon built computer and never had problems with it.. i have literally talked to Earthlink support for a combined > 5hrs... those people are idiots and make me wait long periods of time, to evaluate my problem, only to finally say something... "please wait longer, thank you!!" lol.... Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad i have been looking all over the internet for about 2 weeks now, with no luck... so i decided to turn to this form for some help... i have changed all wires.... changed network cards.... diconnected other computers... disconnected the router and ran the comp straight from the modem, still no avail.... i always get around 600k.... the speeds were tested with 2wire.com and cnet.com. very frustrated since my friends come over and get speed 4x as fast as mine... again please help!!!!!!!!!!! and thanks....

Have you tried shutting down all of the services you are running, AIM, Yahoo.... You are running a lot of TSR's and all using the nic.

Also check to see if your connection is using a Proxy Server.

Maybe your ethernet cable is bad...is it custom made or a retail one?

I have tried different rj45 cables, still the same result.. the cables are store bought and work fine with the other computers. i have disabled the majority of my services that dont pertain to me.. in compliance with http://web.archive.org/web/2005032 [...] icecfg.htm
i was having the problem before i disabled services and i am still getting the same speed after disabling the services...
i am not familiar with TSR's but i do notice that Hijack this does show some stuff that i have disabled.. for example anything yahoo, and messanger... and my connection is not using a proxy server, i came to that conclusion by looking at the connection settings within the tools/options tab of firefox.

sorry if this was already stated but have you tried updating your NIC card drivers to the latest (i didnt feel like reading whole post again )

even tho' it was difficult to find i did update my nic drivers... i was having the problem with the updated drivers... so i rolled the drivers back, with the same results... i have reinstalled the newest drivers since...
