More Information

Hi,

I would like to purchase a new wireless router, but I am not sure which brands and models support AppleTalk. I need AppleTalk to be able to use my LaserWriters.

Any suggestions on which models will work will be appreciated!

Most any router will work. All support tcp/ip protocol.

Check to see if your printer supports Appletalk over TCP/IP. I think they all do.

More Information

Ethernet routers support AppleTalk, but only some wireless routers do. For example my Netgear MR814 doesn't. The Netgear MR314 does but it is no longer made.

I have setup and used several wireless routers with apples. If running OSX. any will work, 11b/g. Apple make most all of the hardware compatable with the PC world. They know they are out numbered.

They area that has a problem is with the web interface, it uses java script. I have been forced to use IE on a few. I also had to upgade the java to newer version, apple seams to be 2-3 version behind. It just like some web pages do not work, most were written for IE only. Firefox now works with allmost all sites now. Particular since MS lost some law suites and were forced to change things.

the apple airport is based on 802.11b and the superairport is based on 802.11g. Have used my laptop with regular b & g airport with no problems. Most if not all wifi are compatible with apples. :)

Can you print to an AppleTalk LaserWriter over the wireless connection? This is the crux of the problem.
