More Information

Just installed a Kingwin AS3000 Water Cooler on to a eVGA 7900GTX and the cooler is working great...for the GPU/CPU....Temps Normal; however....with the stock Heatsink/Fan removed from the 7900GTX, the Video Ram is now exposed and because the massive heatsink and fan are no longer attached... no air gets blown directly on the Ram....RESULT...the 7900GTX Ram gets TOO HOT causing the system to either hang/freeze during POST or sometimes I get a message (during POST) that says "overheating or overclocking or something to do with voltage...! It then gives me the opitions of going to CMOS Setup. If I'm lucky, I can get into CMOS setup before the system hang/freezes. While in CMOS setup, I check the setting and everything looks normal...but...while in setup the video ram must be heating up because the system hangs/freezes. I have a seperate power supply running the AS 3000 and the heatsink fans for the CPU. I've reviewed various Forums and found that the 7900GTX does appear to have heat issues with the Ram...but not solution except....RMA! QUESTION: any ideas on resolving the problem...would small heatsinks on the individual Ram chips help/resolve the problem...any and all suggestions accepted! Thanks gang!

Sorry if I'm being ignorant, but how could you RMA a product when you could not get it working in a configuration other than what it was shipped with.

Anyway there must be some other water blocks availaable. I found this pretty quickly on newegg.com, I don't know if it'll work for you but here it is anyway:

voltage regulator water cooler block. Which is also exposed when you remove the stock fan. I'd check the contacts of the stock hsf to see what else other than the memory is being exposed.

What? You crazy person, of course you're supposed to put ram sinks on the individual ram chips. Some coolers like the popular Zalman (don't know the model but its $30 from newegg) Comes WITH ram heatsinks to put on. I always thought they were a given.
