Hi

I have a Windows Server 2000 SBS SP4 with Exchange 2000 SP3. The Main
System Partition C: is 4GB and needs to be increased.

The reason for the increase is because currently there is 1GB free when
Exchange Services are stopped. When the Services are started store.exe
eats alot of resources and also dramically decreases the disk space
partition slowing the server to a crawl.

The TS logs and Database are stored on another partition. I have found
through Groups that store.exe can use 2GB in a virtual partition so
this would logically explain the space issue.

There is no page file on the c: drive and no critical errors on the
event viewer regarding the system or exchange.

What would be the best way to increase the partition live without
destroying the data (Partition Magic springs to mind)? Rebuilding the
server isn't an option so any other suggestions regarding store.exe
would also be appreciated?

Thanks in advance

first, partition magic isn't an option here
you are using a server, so you would need the server version (volume
manager)

second, i don't quite understand how so much disk space is being used when
the IS is running
at first i was thinking it was increasing the page file, but then you said
there is no page file on C

store.exe uses a lot of ram, but with no page file on that partition, i
don't understand how the space decreases like that when it's running

how much ram is on there?

Obviously the best way to solve your problem is to use special
software... Look at this partition manager:
http://www.acronis.com/homecomputi [...] kdirector/ . I have
found that it really works remarkably!

There is 1GB of ram in that server.

I have read from a Microsoft Arcticle that the IS uses space on the
Hard Drive aswell as the usual Page file and RAM.

We are currently investigating whether moving the exchange installation
to another partition with more space is viable as a) it would increase
the free space and b) store.exe uses the space on the installed drive
to use its "virtual partition"

I have been made aware that increasing partitions live on a RAID array
is best left well alone

Does anyone have any advice on reinstalling exchange to a different
partition on Windows 2000 SBS ?

any chance you could show me that article?
i'd be interested in reading it, as i've never heard of that before; unless
it's somehow just an sbs thing

Sorry bout the late response but I have no idea where to find that
arcticle again. We have tried a product which is worked in our test
lab to resize the partitions live. It doesn't even require a reboot.
Its called Acronis Disk Director 9.

You may find that there is not enough free space on a certain partition. For example, you want to enlarge C: drive, which usually is Windows system drive. EASEUS Partition Manager Personal lets you free enlarge or reduce a partition in Windows 2000/XP/2003 Server(Only Server Edition) without destroying data easily.
