 Thread : DNS on DIALUP

More Information

I have a public DNS on my test server(2003), which has a PPPOE dialup
configured. The problem is if the ISP trips out my server reconnects
automaticaly but the DNS service is no longer bound to the Internet
connection and I have to restart the service to get it to re-bind. It is
configured to listen on all interfaces. Any ideas on a more reliable
workaround / fix to this scenerio, ie without setting up a seperate ADSL
router etc.

That is a default behavior. If a network connection drops (dialup, PPPoE or
network connection), DNS stops listening and needs to be restarted.

Solution? Get an inexpensive Netgear or Linksys Cable/DNS Router to host the
connection and remove the extra connection off your machine. It's much more
secure than connecting your DC/DNS server directly to the Internet anyway.
