More Information

Hey everything seems to be cool right now. Installed XP and currently, right at this very moment, I'm sitting on it and typing these words.
BUT!
I want to make sure that all my components(especially CPU) are running as they should. How can I test? Is ther llike benchmarking tools I can download?
So far, it's been blazing speed machine. Installed XP in about 20 minute? or so, and tried to run some programs that I couldn't with my old PC, so far so good, but I'm still skeptical I want to test it.
THANKS

EDIT : How do you update BIOS?

CPU-Z will help you know if your cpu is doing what it is suppose to.

If you want to see how your computer is comparing to other in 3D performance then run 3Dmark05 or 06 on it and compare your results online.

Also PC mark is a good benchmark found at the same place as 3D Mark!

google cpu z and its the top site

Hey THanks for the reply
So If I use CPU-z and it's giving me what I want to see(i have e6600) then the CPU is no defect or burnt or fried or anything right?
I'm just anxious noob lol

That is a pretty new CPU so the it may not show up correctly, but if it does then you are goin to be in pretty good shape. If you are concerned for the stablility of the processor then run Prime 95 for 8 to 12 hours over night and if there are no problems then you are doin fine and i wouldnt worry about it! CPU Z will just display information showing you the stats of your proc making sure everything is at what it should be at!

Nuke it, Nuke it good!

play some games...that will give it a workout...

or you can run prime95 on both cores....that will run it to the limmit...

Chances are if it runs fast and is stable that everything is fine....

what board do you have? Temps?

More Information

If the motherboard came with some kind of support CD, there are usually utilities that can monitor your CPU temperature, voltages, etc. Try using one, checking for any anomalies. Although they may not be accurate, it is better than not checking at all.
You should also torture test your computer (for 24+ hours to be safe) with programs such as Prime95 (CPU) and 3DMark05/06 (video card).

Yeah I'm just worried that I had my PC run briefly to get through POST with the CPU fan mispositioned. So I'm worried if that did any harm to my CPU? maybe overheat or even fry??? Man this is my first built PC ever so i'm very very nervous and prudential. What are the chances that I maybe misinstalled CPU or the mispostioned fan harming CPU or even frying CPU??!?
I am so sorry for being ignorant. Sorry

More Information

wow you are nervous, calm down.. take a breath, if its running stable now its fine and that cpu has something that throttles it's self back if its going to over heat, so it is nearly impossible to fry from temp... if everything is ok then it is... stop worrying!

edit: oh yeah if you fryed ur cpu you wouldn't be typing on it right now... hence the frying and not working part

and if you misspalced the cpu then it would not be working...

Thanks!
I just thought that I smell something burning lol. My friends said that they smell a lil too so I started worrying cuz the fan was misplaced. I thought that might have done something bad. It's running good now tho. Except that the smell is kinda pervasive with all the fans and I have side panel open right now. I think the smell is actually from my CPU fan? It's Scythe Ninja and the metal thing around the fan smell like burning but I don't think it's burning cuz I checked the ASUS utility and the CPU is at 50 C and mobo is around 40C. I'm moving about 50G of files right now from my old comp so I guess i'm ok now

Anyways, how do you update the bios? I still get the CPU Uload(?) error and they said it's because of BIos.

Fortunately, you got an Intel CPU, which has temp sensors and circuitry inside that detect if the CPU is getting too hot (for whatever reason). The CPU then slows itself down so it runs at a safe temp.
Unfortunately, AMD CPUs need some outside MB circuitry to accomplish the same, so they can get damaged. Tom's has an article from a while back on what happens when you take the heatsink/fan off of a *running* CPU, both Intel and AMD. The AMD CPUs get so hot they destroy themselves and the MB -- there is even video of this that you can download. Talk about smoke!

In my opinion if its up and running, then your pretty much good.

3dMark is a good program to benchmark with.

Oh, and i wouldnt bother with updating a BIOS if your not comfortable with computers, it can permanantly skrew up your pc.

More Information

Well but the thing is that i have to press F1 to get past the error message. My friend said that I only have to update the BIOS to get rid of that message...Is it realy that hard?

I second that. Besides, if it ain't broke don't fix it.
