I think lowering power consumption should be the first priority of all tech companies not just for financial reasons but for geopolitical reasons too. The hybrid car is popular, why not the hybrid computer? Energy consumption is the world's number one problem.

And does the world NEED Windows Vista? Windows Vista is little more than bleeding edge scrapbooking for dullards who should be spending more time with their families and less on the computer. Oh and it's also for people who seem to have trouble losing their files on their computer or don't understand that there are windows behind other windows. Generally these are people I do not associate with. DirectX 10 could be a service pack for Windows XP. I see no reason why the world needs Windows Vista.

Hybrid computer huh. So a hybrid car added an electric motor to assist the gas one. Computers already run on electricity. What are we gonna do, start having computers powered by gas generators in our homes?

Power generation isn't a problem if hippies stop bitching about nuclear power and let the U.S. use it. A lot of the rest of the world already does.

Instead of does the world need Windows Vista, a better question is does the world really need you in it?

More Information

If DirectX 10 was ported to XP, then no one would buy Vista. Hence, DX10 is Vista only.

Why the need for all this "special" stuff for Vista? DRM baby, get it while its fresh!

Though I agree with you that power consumption should be a prime concern, and bloated software never helps that. Nevermind that the upcoming GFX cards are supposed to be the most power hungry ever...at least CPUs are going in the right direction.

Dude, linking Windows Vista to the worlds power useage issues?

What is next? Linux is the cause for World Hunger? ;)

I understand where you are coming from but you just took one heck of a leap of faith..

The world needs Vista for the same reason Apple needed Tiger. To make computers MORE useable for the common person.

It is not targeted at the people of these forums who for the most part would easily give up 3d page selection for a little more performance in the OS!!

For the most part I would accept a command line interface as long as my apps would run faster!

This has been discussed thousands of times. DX10 in no way could be compatible with XP. If it could be, then it wouldn't be what its planned to be. XP doesn't allow some of the features thats planned for it. Some times you have to throw out the old to move forward with the new.

Save the Hippies!!!

i think this is the oddest thread ever. as we live in as open market as is allowed by our dictators in goverment and big business, basically if people don't want to buy something then they won't.

just because people like you say you don't want something should people stop bringing out new products. the answer is NO dumbass. i mean seriously it is up to companies what products they release and it is up to us the consumer which of those products we buy.

i suggest you crawl back in your own private fantasy world where you matter and you control everything.

Well with how much power some of them are using it might not be a bad idea. They're already designing 300W 5.25" power supplies just to power DX10 GPUs.
