I have just updatep my win95 to win98SE. Config and files remain the same.
But win98 Can't detect any USB device (which, btw, never used before in
win95)

Any ideas how to solve this...?

There is *nothing* listed for USB Devices in Device Manager? (At bottom
of Device Manger list.)Or is it simply not detecting a USB peripheral
that has been connected to your USB port(s)? If it has detected and
installed a USB Host Controller and a hub (at least one of each), but
you simply aren't seeing the peripheral that's been attached, you need
to detach that device, then install the proper drivers for it, then
reattach the device.

USB controllers are there... and the drivers are installed... (i.e. Vivitar
3615 and Scanjet 4070) but... the devices are not recognized... it just
happens... nothing!

This devices work fine in WinXP on the same machine

I think... that Win95 doesn't recognize USB and as it is an upgrade of
win98...
maybe... that could be the problem?

That may be the problem.

Have you checked the BIOS Setup to see if
there is an option to enable USB
which is currently set to "Disabled" ?

I'm fairly certain that if the problem is that USB is disabled in BIOS,
the devices wouldn't show up in Device Manager, at least not without
some alerts.

I'm a bit more certain that after uninstalling them in Safe Mode and
then rebooting to reinstall, they would not be detected. I'm not
absolutely positive, and if anyone has any evidence on the subject I'd
be interested.

Note: I do know that in Windows XP it will detect and install certain
types of hardware even though it's been disabled in BIOS, but I don't
recall that happening in Win9x.

Note that there might very well be USB items that are disabled in BIOS
relating to something like "Legacy Support"--it's intended to let BIOS
and other OSes access the USB even before Windows drivers are loaded.
USB keyboard/mouse, for instance. Whether or not that is
enabled/disabled shouldn't be a problem, but I'd enable it all anyway,
just in case.

Just wanted you to be forewarned that even if you find some USB disabled
in BIOS, enabling it/them may not change a thing.

Well, my friends... here is it...
still it doesn't work...

There is something like "Enable USB for DOS" What is supposed to be that?
anyway... it was enabled
But.... there was another like "...Thumbdrive.." right below the " USB-DOS"
I enabled it too...

But nothing...

In the Device Manager there are three USB hubs... three USB host
controllers... and one VIA PCI host controller...

There were a non-identified device (yellow icon) I deleted it but it still
doen't recognize the devices...

Welll..
It worked..
but... adter deleting all USB controlers (there were no devices) and
reinstalliing them.. again....
with the cam conected and.... turned on...
it installed all the controleers... and... finally detected de "Digital
Camera"
It works fine now...

I havn't test the scanner.. I hope it will work fine too... but let's seee
tomorrow... it's too late now..
the scanner is in the office... At least I can download the pictures
directyl on muy win98 session..

but... tell me.. what was the problem? the drivers seem to be the same....
anyway...
