I know this is the wrong section to post this but the other one was pretty inactive. So i need opinions on a router with MIMO and 108mbps transfer speed. I need to possibly hook it up with Voip. Any ideas?

The $25 rebate expired but this is probably the most "wow" receiving router in the reviews I have read. Excellent for a gamer as it has presets for about 50 or so games....and the gamefuel technology reduces lag....and ya can't scoff at giganet speeds.

OTOH, a manager of a SOHO (small office home office network), I am a bit disppointed for the following reasons:

1. You can set schedules with the same rule. For example, if I wanna allow port forwarding for a certain game on "school nites" to ports x, y and z up to 10 pm, I can't make another rule allowing access on weekends to midnite.

2. If you go into the gaming section and say set up port forwarding for "Warcraft" to Machine Alpha, since Starcraft uses the same ports, you can't set up a game rule for Starcraft to Machine Beta. I think I can do a work around by doing it under special applicatiosn section but it's lame that the firmware doesn't allow this when my $40 SMC7004 did this no problem.

3. In the Special Applications sections however there is no way to set permissions for port ranges. Say you have a SOHO and want to allow AIM on the home machines and not the office machines....no can do. Either all machines are permitted or no machine sare permitted.

To the gamer member of the family, these are probbaly non issues, to the Dad who make his living off his puter and might be a bit nervous about his office network being compromised these are sugnificant issues.

I have the DGL 4300 as well and for gaming there are few, if any, better routers out there. I can understand the issues with trying to limit specific computers to certain ports or certain applications to certain computers but really it's a GAMING router, says so right in it's name.

Toms did a review for PTP sharing as well and it ranked second so I can't see how it would perform badly with VOIP either... it is expensive though.

Zyxel is great, I use a lot of their AP's for my corporate clients, they never die or freeze!

Thats what newegg has for 108mbps wireless routers, one of them has to work. I like Dlink myself, but you might prefer someone else.

As far as VOIP goes, can't you use your normal phone? As I understand it, you plug your normal phone into the "VOIP box" and the box gets pluged into the router/switch. If this is the case, grab yourself a normal wired router. (or if wireless is needed, plug the box into the wireless routers wired conections.) A 5.8GHz wireless phone should be great. I guess what I'm getting at is why the need for MIMO/108. (not that its hard to fill that need)

Hmmm, lets try this another way.
Why do you need MIMO, and why do you need a wireless router? IF you are getting this ONLY because of the VOIP, don't bother. Plug the VOIP box into a lan port, and your done. If you have other devices that want the wireless connection, then you might or might not need MIMO. The router you listed should work fine, and if it fits your budget then you should be good. You could also grab a D-link 604 (My favorite router btw.) for about half this price.

There is plenty of routers onnthe market, great majority is a trash!
