Hi guys.

Tom Coyote has been doing an amazing job and all is going well.

But Siggyx has commented that>> "But if your CPU is at 100% all the time
that's not generally a good thing."<<.

I guess he knows this by the log, I have had a look to see where in the log
it refers to this but have failed.

What does Siggyx mean by this and what can I do about it. And for interest,
where in the log does it refer to this.

Cheers Steve.

There's nothing wrong with running the CPU at 100%. I do it all the
time, running SETI. You just need to be more aware of your CPU's
temperature, have conservative settings in place to protect the CPU from
meltdown (either in BIOS or by running a mobo monitor.)

However, if you don't know what's causing your CPU to run at 100% on a
continuous basis, that's when it's time to be concerned about malware.

Power Outage Update: The data server is down for the weekend. The power in the
building is still not trustworthy and our graceful shutdown procedures are not
yet working. There will probably be a power outage next week so that campus can
track this down.

<Unquote>

Followup information was that the SETI servers were not communicating to their respective
UPS devices. So they didn't trust the servers to be properly shutdown by the UPS therefore
the servers have been manually shutdown for the weekend. During the past week the servers
have only been up during California business hours.

You must have a fair number of machines doing SETI to get that result,
<s>.

So, the fact that our MVP group stats haven't been updated doesn't mean
much... The server is still receiving the units.

Sorry for not being clear enough, but I assumed that as it was my post on
this newsgroup, that it was suggested that I went to the tomcoyote forum to
post the hijack this log, that you would know what I meant.

Anyhow, Siggyx at the tomcoyote forum has been delousing my 'puter and we
have nearly finished, but he has commented that:-

"But if your CPU is at 100% all the time that's not generally a good thing."

I do not know why my PC would be working this hard, as it is not doing
anything other than waiting for us to use it for something.

Also, I would like to know how Siggyx knew that it is running at 100%, he
must know this from the hijackthis log , could you explain where in the log
it gives this info.

Hope this is clearer.

Cheers Steve

The Hijack This log does not show percentage of CPU usage. Why don't you ask the
responder, Siggyx, why he thinks you are using 100% of the CPU? Are you seeing a
CPU usage report on your system yourself?

Get the Sysinternals Freeware, Process Explorer, and look for yourself:

Thanks Glen,

I didn't ask Siggyx because when I have asked for info in the past he has
not answered, I assumed that he is to busy to digress, but I will ask him.

No I am not seeing any report

We have run the usual batch of various programs during the delousing, so he
must have seen the CPU usage from one of those, or else how would he know.

Could you run me through how I can check my CPU usage and other checks I
need to do, I assume it is in the bios or cmos or there abouts.

Many Thanks Steve
