Hi

We've recently bought NavMan SmartST and are running it on O2 XDA2's.

The maps for the UK total about 128MB, so we've bought a 512MB SD card to
hold the maps, and for other data use.

But NavMan are claiming that their app won't work with 512MB SD cards. They
say it's a limitation of PocketPC2003, that in order to access a 512MB SD
card, the PPC has to have 10% of the capacity, ie 51MB, free in onboard
memory.

Is this really a limitation of PPC, or have NavMan just badly coded their
app?

I'm running a 1GB SD Card on my O2 XDAII with TomTom Navigator.

Apparently its a "feature" of NavMan's software. From what I have gathered
SmartST needs to cache 10% of the available maps in the PPC's main memory.

So for our 128MB of UK maps, it needs to cache 12-13MB locally (regardless
of whether they are held onboard or on the SD card).

Plus it needs another 8-15MB for the application, so to run NavMan with full
UK maps you need about 28MB of free onboard memory.

Adjusting the memory management seems to alleviate the issue slightly, but
really it's shoddy coding.

Chris,

I run Navman and O2 XDII with a 512M SD card and about 50M of XDA memory
(total free) with no problems. I had all or Australia on the SD (think it
is over 100M) and the only issue the time it took to load as was going
throught 7 states where as your UK would be just one file (?). I know only
have the state that I am in to load.

Just looked up and found that Australian maps are only about 60M, not 100M
as stated earlier.
