Hi,

After I migrated my data from my Palm Pilot to Outlook
and perform a few sync. using the Active Sync. to my PPC
(HPiPAQ 4355), I find the following issues:

1) Notes categories don't transfer to the PPC
eg: After the sync, none of my notes categories were
transferred to the PPC. All the catogories associated to
each note is gone too! I have to re-type the category
name and move each record to the appropriate category one
by one.

2) All notes appears on the Notes screen as a long
list. I perfer to see a shorter list (like what I can do
in Palm), is there anyway to view notes by categories?

3) Custom fields in Outlook (such as "Primary"
phone, "Company" phone or "Other" ) don't migrate to the
PPC. If you have data in Outlook associated
to "Primary", "Company", or "Other" phone numbers, then
they disappear in PPC.

Does anyone know how to work around the above ActiveSync
issues between Outlook and PPC? Is there any 3rd party
applications we can use?

I'm very disappointed with this, and very surprised that
data between Outlook and PPC doesn't seem to sync
correctly. If I'm doing anything wrong, PLEASE let me
know! Hope someone out there has some bright idea to
share.

Thanks for your help in advance!

Categories are not supported in Notes on the Pocket PC. Sorry. Check
out PhatNotes (http://www.phatware.com/phatnotes/hpcnotes3std.html) if
you need this.

See above for PhatNotes.

Custom fields are not supported on the Pocket PC. Check out IntelliSync
(http://www.pumatech.com) which can re-map custom fields to other
unused fields, or Pocket OnSchedule (http://www.odysseyinc.com), which
will do custom fields.

Not all Outlook fields are supported in the compact model so can't be seen
by either the inbuilt software or by third party apps (see below). It seems
arbirtrary which ones, other than the obvious ones, MS chose. That said, and
I just double-checked, while you're right that Company Phone and Other
don't, "Business Phone" and "Business Phone2" _do_ sync. My habit has become
to use "Business Phone" for a person's direct l ine and "Business Phone2"
for that company's switchboard.

As to syncing, there is a product called IntelliSync which is supposed to
give beefier syncing, but I've never used it so I can't comment further.

As to PIM software, I'm a great fan of Pocket Informant by WebIS, which
costs $US29.95. It basically links Contacts, Tasks, Notes and Calendar in
one application and allows objects in each of those databases to be linked
to each other. Each db appears as a tab in a tabbed view and each tab has a
myriad of ways of viewing it appropriate to the kind of data you're looking
at. See http://www.pocketinformant.com/p_pocketinformant.php for more
details. You can also collect Journal entries against Contacts, Tasks or
Appointments but you need to buy an AS addon to sync them to Outlook (since
Journal syncing isn't built in to AS out of the box). BTW, I have no
relationship with WebIS other than as a completely satisifed customer.

For the record, PI's main competitor product is Agenda Fusion, which I
tried, but found a little slow and beefy for the E310 I had at the time. It
might be worth a look as well.
