Ouch, you can get a much much better desktop with that money. But, if you REALLY need a laptop, then I guess you're stuck! Unless you feel like carrying around your desktop, that would be cool. Plus, most notebooks are nonupgradeable!

Everything looks pretty snazzy. Half Life and Doom 3 may give you some trouble, even at lower detail settings - but will likely be playable. BF2 should be playable fine on low settings, I have a friend with nearly the same specs as you have.

If you can, upgrade the GFX card. The RAM could use an upgrade too, which will be cheap. HDD to 7200 RPM would be nice. Sounds like you might be on a tight budget though... If there's anything I MUST urge you to do, get a video card with 128MB!

As far as getting rid of stuff... You could probably drop the processor to 2500+ without a huge hit to the game speed. You can also make the DVD read-only, but that might be important to you - you can't burn porn to DVD without one ;P.

Okay so it looks SOL as far as cheaper goes.

Maybe check out another company for notebooks? I know www.ibuypower.com has some great deals on them, as well as www.buyxg.com.

Get only the minimum you can stand when it comes to notebooks. Unless you have a lot of money to blow, there is no need in spending much money on gaming components. I've never been a fan of notebooks because they haven't solved the power issues, which includes the graphics components. They are nice to be able to surf on the web and write papers on the go, maybe even watching a movie (if battery life permits), otherwise they are not yet ready for primetime. PDA's with multimedia playback, net surfing and some sort of notepad are the way to go for now. They can be had for roughly $600. I like to be able to put it in my pocket. Once Lcos's can be fully utilized, they will be awesome. Otherwise, $1800 or more on a notebook may satisfy, supposing you do shop well.

Here's a great thought! Spend 200$ on a crappy dell notebook that can do papers.

Spend the next 800$ on an upgradeable desktop!

Like a FX5200 with 128MB?

M9700 equals 9600XT so there's still plenty of power as long as you don't play the latest game.

I was measuring NFSU2's GRAM usage the other day with ATiTools. Under max detail it used 65MB on my 9800Pro 128MB.

AMD 2500+ vs. 2800+ which one is better?
I'm on budget :)
and about that 6600go(64~128) how much it cost?

More Information

Not a bad Notebook, but honestly not something you can really game on with today’s games.
Need 1G Ram, and better video.
If you want something for school, go cheep on the laptop $600-700 or refurbished for even less and upgrade your desktop.
Or put together a Shuttle system.

More Information

Get one gig of RAM at least.
