Hi,
Some how I have a picture that appears at the very start of the start up
sequence on my Windows ME computer. It only lasts a second or so then goes
away and Windows then starts normally. how can I get rid of this or change
it? It is a picture that I have had on the computer and I have no idea how
it got into the start up sequence.

That sounds like it's the default wallpaper - try booting to Safe Mode, and
see if it's the wallpaper there - if so, then you should be able to change
it.
If not, then if you can remember the filename, change it to something else,
and Windows should drop back to a new default plain background.

Thanks noel, but it isn't the wallpaper it just flashes up for 1/2 second at
the very start of the start up sequence.

This is 'normal' for Win ME - it's the ME 'splash' screen, which only ever
worked properly if you had your settings to US default (despite strenuous
efforts by Beta-testers to alert MS to the problem!).

If you are really desperate to rid yourself of it, do the following.

1) delete all files named
logo.sys
logow.sys
logos.sys
from the c:\ directory

2) modify MSDOS.SYS to indicate that you don't want the splash screen to
show - I can't personally see any point to this, since the default screen
is at least telling you which OS is booting, so if you want to know how to
do it, search Google.

I don't mind the splash screen I just don't want this particular picture. It
isn't the default one but one of my own.

So if I do Part 1 of your suggestion will it revert back to default?
As you may tell the ME com[puter is in another location or I would try it
straight away.
