Spybot would like to dispose of Affiliate Creator's registry entry. It is a
beneficial program. What are the con's and pro's in removing this entry?
My inclination is to leave it in place.

Harry.

Dave:

Removing that entry caused me (hopefully) temporary display and browser
problems.
Should I be concerned?
Restoration of the entry is easily possible.
What's the verdict?

Harry.

What's the fully qualified Registry entry and path ?

When you say 'path and entry', Dave, what exactly does that mean (pardon my
illiteracy)?
Spybot has the following info:
Registry Optimizer (in red letters),
Settings (as registry key):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\AffiliateCreator
That's the best I can do for now, without specific instructions.
The problem was not temporary, as I had hoped and I restored this setting,
clearing up my display/browser problem.
What's next?

Harry.

I can't see how that will harm the OS to remove. My research shows a key under thet branch
as ...

Dave,

I'm not sure how often you are going to have to tell Harry this but
"Affiliate Creator" and the HKLM\Software\AffiliateCreator key should be
removed and have nothing to do with any problems that he is seeing. Harry
perhaps needs to ask himself how he picked up Affiliate Creator and then
review his browsing and installation habits. Prevention always being
better than any cure.

Dave:

Contrary to what others may say, when I restored the setting, my problem
disappeared, that's a fact.
I was more than willing to follow your instructions and did.
According to Google this program is supposed to be beneficial, but can also
be malware.
Maybe in my case it is the former.
As far as I can determine, there are no harmful programs on this machine and
I definitely do no harmful browsing.
Do you need a HJT-log or the like to see for yourself?
If so, give me instructions to place it here.
Thank you for your understanding.

Harry.

Before continuing you need to ask yourself how did Affiliate Creator
arrive on your PC. Until you answer that and look at YOUR own actions (or
inaction) when on the net there is little point IMO of anyone trying to
help. One only has to read back through this newsgroup to see the never
ending catalogue of disasters that you seem to create for yourself. One
would have hoped you would have learned something from the many posts made
by others attempting to help you solve your problems but seemingly not as
you go from one problem to another.

Is your name Dave?
I don't come here to be lectured, but for supporting advice.
If you don't want to give it, then don't.

Harry.

You might however try and learn something for once but IMO that's most
unlikely given your appalling record over the past year or more. I doubt
that any one or even ten other posters taken together have ever created as
many self inflicted problems for themselves than yourself.

As for giving, in so far as this newsgroup goes, you wouldn't know what
means.

No -- Mike Maltby is not Dave Lipman.
However, Mike is *smarter* than me in many ways and I respect his responses.
You should too Harry !

doubt his name's Dave; this is a newsgroup not a monitored 1:1.

A quick Search doesn't say anything bad about the program, though the
keyword "affiliate" causes a kneejerk reaction in me.

But if it doesn't have an Uninstaller of some kind, or uninstalling it
manually causes problems, that's a pretty clear indicator that it isn't
in your best interests to have it on your computer.

That's exactly the reason for coming here, Rick:
the word "affiliate".
Right now it doesn't cause me any problems, giving me time
to figure a way and deal with it.
Appreciate your concern.

Harry.
