More Information

I recently installed SP2, and was immediately unable to boot up Windows. It wouldn't even start in Safe Mode. Just a pretty little blue screen that said to reboot. I pulled my network card (educated guess), and the OS booted fine. I reinstalled W2K (without SP2) a couple of days ago, and everything seems to work fine. Anyone have any ideas about this? I wouldn't mind having the 128-bit encryption and the application compatability.

Sys specs:
Dell Dimension 4100
P3 866
Intel MB (don't know which one)
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 30gig
Hercules 3D Prophet II MX 64 Meg
256 meg PC133 generic
Netgear FA312 NIC
Lucent WinModem 56k v.90
SoundBlaster 64

Apple? Macintosh? What are these strange words you speak?

Sounds like you have two choices to me. Try to find newer drivers for the NIC card (and possibly a firmware update) that is compatibible with SP2, or stick with SP1 until the updates are available.

In the meantime, find the SUPPORT folder on your Win2K CD. Inside, you'll find an application called APCOMPAT. Copy it to your hard drive, floppy, CD, etc. This program will allow you to run and install programs in various compatibility modes.

It tends to be slow, and sometimes needs to be manually shut down before the designated program will run. But it WILL work 90% of the time.

SP2 only adds a compatibility tab to shortcuts, anyway.
