Just installed the Microsoft USB Bluetooth dongle that came with my
Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse. Using WinXP Pro SP2. Bluetooth finds the
devices and will pair but can't access any services. If I do a search for
services I see Keyboard/Mouse service (or DUN etc on my T610) but if I tick
the box to use them I get a "Bluetooth Service Error" "Access Denied"
message.

The only thing I can do is manually add an outgoing COM port. An inbound
one gives the same message.

I've uninstalled all the drivers, cleaned out the registry and the inf
folder and tried re-installing a few times but no luck. I've also changed
permissions in the registry for the Bluetooth stack but no luck.

I can get it to work by using another Bluetooth stack (modified Widcomm) but
that is illegal, I merely tried it to see if the hardware was OK. I really
need a legal solution for this PC and one which will also let me use the
latest MS Intellitype software, Live Update etc.

It appears the MS Bluetooth stack is not allow incoming connections but I
can't find any security settings for Bluetooth apart from the Connection and
Discovery options in the Bluetooth Devices cpl.

Any help appreciated.

Not exactly sure how using a modified Widcomm BT Stack is illegal, but I
had the same struggle you are having, I think. Are you simply trying to
connect your T610 to the PC through BlueTooth? What I would suggest is
downloading the latest version of the Synchronization software from here:
http://www.sonyericsson.com/downlo [...] 5.10.2.exe

There is a ton of software and information available from
www.clubsonyericsson.com that may help you with what you want to do. I
couldn't figure out if you were just trying to synchronize to your PC or
use the DUN over BT so you could browse the internet on your T610 or
perhaps use the keyboard and mouse on the T610. Anyway, you may want to
check that website and see if that helps. I finally got it to
synchronize with Outlook 2003 and use the DUN over BT without any
problems, but it took me about three tries with a few reboots inbetween.

Thanks, but I only mentioned the T610 to demonstrate that all Bluetooth
devices are having an access issue with the Microsoft stack. Not having paid
any royalties to Widcomm (or their new owner) makes it a triffle dodgy in
the coporate sense.

I'm going to junk the MS dongle and get a TDK one which uses the Widcomm
drivers, same as my Laptop PCMCIA card and that will make the problem go
away.

What drivers are you using with your MS BT Dongle? You may want to try
the updated drivers included in the IntelliSoftware Version 5.2. I had
difficulties getting anything (including my T610) to connect until I
updated to these drivers. You may want to give that a try before
spending money on a new dongle

Even better, I swapped the MS dongle with a TDK one on a PC in a different
location and everything is fine. Even got the T610 and a P900 to talk.

Still no idea why I get an error message that is not even in the MS
knowledge base with the MS drivers on this PC but I'm not prepared to do a
clean install of XP or spend any more time it. Thanks for your suggestions.
