Wanted to try a bluetooth phone. Can't locate a source which lists all the
phones that are compatible with Cingular service. I now have a Samsung x427
and gsm service in Texas.

I guess what I'm asking, can I get any gsm, bluetooth phone and pop in my
sim card and make it work? If so, which models should I look for?

Any 850/1900 GSM.

To some extent, probably.

Be careful for the 850/900 MHz issue. I have a phone that doesn't support
850MHz and I live in an area with only 850 MHz Cingular service.

It *has* to be compatible with the frequency used in your area. If
your area uses 850 a 1900 only phone will not work for you.

Nokia makes at least a couple of handsets that do 850/1900 and do
Bluetooth such as the 3600 and 3620. Go to phonescoop.com and go to
the phone finder and specify among you wants Bluetooth.

The answer is a qualified "yes." The phone must be unlocked, or
Cingular subsidized, and to work well it should be dual band: 800/850
mhz and 1900 mhz because Cingular and it's primary roaming partner
AT&T Wireless operate on both frequencies. A single band phone will
limit your use of the networks.

Good choices: Motorola v600 and Sony-Ericsson T637.
