There are so many of these problems reported but no
solution. Why can't Windows XP do the simple thing of
handling DVDs and CDs?
=========================================================
I have a 6 month old Pioneer DVR-106D DVD Writer. The
problem I have is that suddenly Windows XP stopped
reading discs. I can still use it for burning CDs and
DVDs. I can use Isobuster to read discs but Windows
itself won't recognise the discs.

The drive is detected by Windows and displays the DVD-RW
icon in My Computer. However, when I insert any type of
disc the icone changes to the of a CD-ROM drive. When I
double click it I'm told to insert a disc. As I said
before I can burn discs with the drive and the contents
of discs are accessible with Isobuster. There is nothing
wrong with the drive itself as I've
tested it on another computer.

There's definitely something accessing the drive because
when I use CloneCD for burning discs it gives me a
warning saying that CloneCD cannot gain exclusive access
to the drive.

This means there is some problem within my installation
but I can't isolate it. The drive works perfectly in
other computers, it still burns discs and Isobuster can
read the discs. However, windows itself isn't reading
the discs.

I've disabled the IMAPI service as this was suggested to
me but no success yet. I've also tried different IDE
cables.

UPDATE:
I have uninstalled every program that has anything to do
with accessing the drive. However, accessing the drive
now has become a bit of a lottery. Sometimes when I boot
up it works fine. When I restart it may or may not work.
When I reinstalled CloneCD I still get the get the
message about no exclusive access.
